Seventeen out of fifty states in America have legalized homosexual marriage. There is well over 71,165 same sex marriages in the United States today (Desilver 5-1). All seventeen states that legalizes gay marriage commits the most harmful violation of a traditional event that was created to be for a man and a woman. Marriage should be traditional and natural (involving male and female) as Jesus declared it, unfortunately, same sex marriage creates a harmful environment for children and misleads America’s judgment of civil rights. The traditional and natural image of marriage is involved with male and female joining in holy matrimony. All people of God should agree that discipleship is an important factor of Christianity. Christians should grow to be more like God. A Christian marriage should be reflected in a godly union. Two men joining in marriage does not show any godly characteristics. Two men joining in marriage actually violates God’s image of what he designed. (TFP Students 1-1) The only way to join in a holy matrimony is in heterosexual circumstances. “Homosexual Marriage is an abomination.” (Michaelson 7-1). Not only does this violates God’s natural creation, but it offends God due to the fact that someone is transforming his configuration. An abomination is not always classified as a sin. An abomination is something that causes disgust or hatred. Leviticus 18:22 says: “Thou shalt not lie with mankind, as with womankind: it is abomination.” Same sex marriage is not natural or right for the United States of America. “Whenever one violates the natural moral order established by God, one sins and offends God. Same sex marriage does just this. Accordingly, anyone who professes to love God must be opposed to it.” (TFP Stud... ... middle of paper ... ... in general. It is a choice to be involved in homosexual relationships as well as marriage. It is a choice to commit an abomination. America's civil rights do not involve any rights that are incorrigible. “Legal recognition of same sex marriage would necessarily obscure certain basic moral values, devalue traditional marriage, and weaken public morality.” (TFP Students 1-2) The United States of America is in danger with legalizing same sex marriage because it destroys the path that Jesus has for those involved. Same sex marriage is not a natural event that could benefit the life of any gender. Marriage should be traditional as Jesus wants it to be. Same sex marriage can harm a child's mind and idea of how life should be. Civil Rights should not be compared with same sex marriage discrimination. Same sex marriage should not be legal anywhere in God's world or nation.
According to biblical texts, in the beginning, God created the first man, Adam and made him a woman, Eve. He gave Adam a woman, not a man, so that the human race can maintain a man/woman relationship. For thousands of years homosexuality has been misconduct or in the church’s case, sin. We are continuously beset with this controversial topic and have since reached a point where homosexuality is more open and more accepted than ever. Now, gay men and women fight for the right to be legally married in the United States. In Christianity, marriage is a lifelong commitment under God and many Christians believe this is a “major sin.” However, no matter the relation of man and woman or man and man, Homosexuals should be allowed to have a lifelong
Many disagree, due to the Leviticus 18:22 quote; “You shall not lie with a male as with a woman; it is an abomination.” Homosexuality is a sin under the law of the bible. The United States is a nation under god, as it is stated in the pledge. To practice homosexuality legally would be a direct violation of the United States as a nation under god. It is also said to be wrong because it defeats the purpose of procreation; which is only physically possible between a man and a woman. This is also a theory stated in the bible; “Be fertile and multiply; fill the earth and subdue it.” (Gen. 1:28-29). Meaning that it is our duty as humans to procreate. This is obviously something a homosexual couple would be unable to do, thus not fulfilling their responsibility clearly stated in the bible. "From the beginning of the creation, God made them male and female. For this cause a man shall leave his father and mother; and shall cleave to his wife." (Mark 10:6-7); this bible quote states that any marriage that is true is a marriage between a man and a woman. Allowing ...
The world today is surrounded with many controversial issues. One such issue would be the topic of gay marriage. This country has grown around one major tradition, being the definition of marriage. It’s more-less looked at as a religious or legal commitment between a women and man, to express their love and compassion towards one another, being the last and final step there is to take with that significant other. Homosexual relationships are rapidly gaining acceptance in this country. However, the Defensive of Marriage Act, that former president Clinton signed in 1996, is holding many back from being able to marry what could be the significant other of their dreams. Homosexuality effects from 8% to 15% of all males, as well as females being slightly less than the male population. To put this in a more familiar context, there are as many gays and lesbians in America today as there are unemployed citizens. There are a few states which formed a type of commitment called a "civil union", which basically is marriage without using the word "marriage." Gay couples are denied significant rights when they are not allowed to marry, and these result in injustices within society. Most carry the burden of hiding their sexual identity for fear of being disrespected or mistreated by the general population who remain ignorant to the causes and circumstances of homosexuality. This puzzles many due to the excess amount of investigative work that has been done on the phenomenon, as well as puzzling the church as to who would want to look into the concept in such a sinful matter.
The issue of gay marriage needs little introduction as it is one of the most widely contended and discussed topics in the United States of America. While the issue is relatively recent one has to question why this is even an issue to begin with. The Supreme Court of the United States ruled that the Constitution guarantees a right to same-sex marriage. Arguments come from both religious groups, as well as secular focused sources. Reasoning against gay marriage ranges from religious immorality, to the idea that giving gays the right to marry would support minoritarianism (giving minority special privileges and advantages in either a legislative or societal capacity). There are countless arguments besides those mentioned, few of which have any substantial grounds to stand on. Gay marriage causes no political or communal grief, except for those who strongly oppose it now. Even for those people gay people exist either way. Whether they are married or not will not change that and their lives will not be dramatically changed from it. Gay marriage has no valid reason to be outlawed and there are plenty of reasons to allow it.
Marriage as generally define is the union between one man and one woman. However a recent debate over same-sex marriage has stirred a nationwide debate reverberating in the halls of Congress, at the White House, in dozens of state courtrooms and legislatures, and is also becoming a speech-making topic for election campaigns at both the national and state levels. As the debate for this controversial topic rages on, the American religious community view on the topic remains deeply divided over the matter and over the morality of homosexuality in general. Granting legal marriage right to gays and lesbians would primarily alter the idea of marriage, ignore a child’s right to a mother and father, and expands government control of marriage.
Homosexuality defies the laws of nature, social norms, and has many adverse side effects. Today we live in a society that promotes homosexuality as an acceptable lifestyle. Many homosexuals that live this lifestyle like to justify their behavior by twisting God’s truth. They make claims like “God is a God of love”, “the bible does not condemn homosexuality”, and “I am not hurting anybody, so it is ok.” God has clearly revealed to us in his Word that homosexuality is an abomination. Leviticus 20: 13 says, “If a man lies with a male as with a woman, both of them have committed an abomination; they shall surely be put to death; their blood is upon them.” (ESV). Sin is serious and God’s Word tells us that there are grave consequences for such sin. Homosexuality is not only a sin that is committed against oneself, but is also contrary to God’s divine design of marriage and family. God created holy matrimony to be between one man and one woman and not between the same sex. Right from the beginning God says in Genesis 2:24, “Therefore a man shall leave his father and his mother and hold fast to his wife, and they shall become one flesh.” (ESV). God designed marriage for procreation and tells us to “be fruitful and multiply.” A homosexual couple, on the other hand, is unable to reproduce and have a family. That is only one of the many negative side
Homosexuality and Same-sex unions may be acceptable in current society, but for the Christian believer it has caused great conflict. Homosexual marriage is an attractive deception of the original act of marriage intended by God. The unions of homosexuals are an affront to creator and His word. Same-sex unions long for the same rewards that have been conferred to heterosexual couples which have been united in holy matrimony. According to the word of God, the biblical prospective: marriage is the union of man and woman, not man and man or woman and woman- same-Sex unions are considered an abomination.
Whenever one violates the moral order established by God, they sin and “offend” God. And if you are a good Christian you should abide by it. If two people can be just as happy as a man and a woman why can’t they deserve the same right? Times are changing and the world is becoming more open to same-sex marriage, it is possible to be gay, and still believe in god. In the bible it says “The Lord rained down sulphurous fire upon Sodom and Gomorrah. He overthrew those cities and the whole plain, together with the inhabitants of the cities and the produce of the soil” (Gen. 19:24-25). Religion is a tough subject and it really depends on the person, you can believe in god and not same-sex marriage or be the opposite and discriminate to same-sex
In the United States, legalization of same-sex marriage has a long-standing history of opposition from religious circles. Some argue against the legalization of same-sex marriage based on their interpretation of the Bible’s stance against homosexuality (Dobson, O’Brien). Other opponents argue against the practice based on universal tenets of moral behavior, fundamental beliefs that are said to underpin our country’s existing laws and should not be eroded (George, Finnis, Friedman).
Today, in the 21st century, gay couples face marriage discrimination from religions, mostly from Christianity. Several arguments against gay marriage has risen in the recent years. The most common religious argument against same-sex marriage revolves around scripture, which many faith communities believe came directly from the mouth of God, and they interpret scripture to forbid the practice of homosexuality, and by extension, same-sex marriage (Baker). Homosexuality itself is not a sin because it is just an attraction to one’s own gender but, to the faith communities, the practice of homosexuality makes it a sin. Do not have sexual relations with a man as one does with a woman; that is detestable (New International Version Bible, Leviticus 18:22). Many religions believe that procreation is the most important to human existence and same-sex ...
Thus, those who insist on same-sex marriage in the name of human or gender quality are standing against the Lord, and through such the rebellion, they have faithfully spoken for the Satan’s deception. They deceive even themselves or duped by the Satan, because they have never known who Jesus Christ is and what He did for our sin.
One cannot deny that one of the main justifications as to why gay marriage is presently unlawful is due to the religious understanding that homosexual individuals are sinners. The reason being is, when an individual violates the natural ethical order founded by God, that person sins and insults God. An individual who professes to follow the teachings of God must oppose to same sex marriage as it is considered unethical and immoral. In addition, gay marriage will consequently invade our right to freely exercise our religious freedoms. A pastor shouldn’t be obligated to marry a homosexual couple or a church shouldn’t be forced to be the site of a gay wedding. Legalizing same sex marriage would mean imposing the first amendment rights of our
Same-sex marriage is a broad and current controversy in the United States today. The movement to legalize same-sex marriage started in the 1970; however, it is still not legal in all fifty states yet (“Same-sex marriage in the United States”). Legalizing same-sex marriage should not be a debate. People should be able to marry who they love regardless of sexual orientation. Same-sex marriage should be legal because it is a human right, religion should not interfere with state laws, it does not adversely affect the heterosexual community in any way, and same-sex marriage can actually benefit our society.
Legalizing gay marriage has caused many problems in the society today. The U.S. Constitution is making some people go against their religious beliefs because of this law. I personally do not think people should have to go against their religion to support something that God would not be pleased with. We have enough things going on in this horrible world and irrelevant things like this should not be added to society’s problems.
In conclusion I argue that banning same-sex marriage is discriminatory. It is discriminatory because it denies homosexuals the many benefits received by heterosexual couples. The right to marriage in the United States has little to do with the religious and spiritual meaning of marriage. It has a lot to do with social justice, extending a civil right to a minority group. This is why I argue for same-sex marriage. The freedom to marry regardless of gender preference should be allowed.
