Statement of Purpose

My decision to apply for an M.S. program at University of Texas Dallas is driven by my aspirations to pursue a research career in the field of Electrical Engineering. This field interests me because of its rigorous mathematical nature and it’s wide-ranging. Nietzsche once opined, "There are no facts only interpretations". This fits in aptly to modern day researchers. It’s only when we look beyond the obvious facts, reason out the impossible, and work towards a deeper understanding, that we go a step further and start proving or disproving; that is the true interpretation and that is what helps us constantly challenge the boundaries of knowledge. Following this pragmatic and linear approach has helped me solve some of the most complex problems in my academics pursuits. My interaction with the subject of electronics has been a long and joyous journey, dating back 6 years to the moment when I first learned to design circuits. In high school we were supposed to choose one vocational subject of our interest and that’s when I had hands-on experience with electronics for the first time. As my high school project I had made “Burglar Alarm” though it looks simple now but the satisfaction I felt after completing that project was ineffable, and that was the time when I decided to work and make it as my profession. After high school, I joined Pune Institute of Computer Technology (PICT) – one of the oldest and renowned institutions in India teaching electronics and telecommunication engineering – for my undergraduate studies. At PICT, the excellent facility, faculty and the wide spectrum of courses have given me an excellent command on the fundamentals of Electrical Engineering. My interest in this field has kept on growing with courses li... ... middle of paper ... ...eering. After witnessing massive increase in Consumer Electronics in the last decade, I feel that, there is a need of making much more energy efficient VLSI circuit designs. To keep pushing technology forward in the pace at which it is progressing presently and simultaneously controlling extravagant use of energy, we need to do lot of research in this field. According to me, if we break the parochial approach and start thinking out of the box, there is an incessant scope of innovation in this field. And I would feel fortunate if I get a chance of contributing in this progress. Through interaction with a friend, an Electrical Engineering Graduate student at UTD and my classmate at PICT, I have learnt about the collaborative and diverse environment at UTD. So, I look forward to being part of University of Texas Dallas as a graduate student at your esteemed department.
