Waking up drowsy, struggling to get out of bed and the difficulty to mentally prepare for the day is a common problem that many individuals deal with day in and day out. Consuming one particular caffeine-filled drink can almost always solve the morning grogginess and lack of motivation for the majority of people. Coffee has become part of the daily routine for the majority of people all around the world, and due to the constant demand for coffee, there are numerous multi-million and multi-billion dollar successful coffee chain companies that can be found internationally and all over the globe. When considering all of the major coffee corporations, a few well-recognized names that are frequently mentioned are Dunkin’ Donuts, Saxby’s and even Wawa or any major convenience stores similar to the Wawa corporation. However, whether a person is craving a plain black coffee or a delicious combination of coffee with certain additives like caramel and whipped cream, Starbucks takes the cake. When considering Starbucks as a corporation, people often immediately think of their reliable coffee service, their well-recognized mermaid logo, or even their worldwide store locations. As a famous international coffeehouse chain, Starbucks is the highest grossing coffee chain in the United States. Standing behind this multi-billion dollar organization is Howard Schultz, who has been the owner of Starbucks since 1987 and has been focused on expanding the business ever since. At 60 years of age, Schultz has completely revolutionized the coffeehouse chain industry, and is recognized as a very influential leader in today’s society.

When considering qualities of an excellent leader, an exemplary leader is someone who not only has outstanding leadership skills but also helps others reach their goals in caring manner along the way. As demonstrated in many personal interviews it is apparent that Schultz’s concern lies for the people associated with his company, not just necessarily the profit and success of Starbucks. By keeping the employees motivated to work hard by providing them with many desirable incentives as well as reassuring them that their input is always valued, Howard Schultz has instilled trust between the administration and all levels of employees which overall reinforces that Howard Schultz is a perfect, current example of a phenomenal leader as characterized by Warren Bennis.
