I went to a college production, of the Spring Shorts play. This play took place at the Menifee Valley campus art theatre. There were many plays rolled into one throughout the production. I found each one to be unique, they did all came together as one cohesive whole. Each one described a new setting, and a new cast of characters in each one for the most part. I think the play was put together well, and you could tell that a lot of time went into the production. The environment was nice, it was all set up prior to the start of the show, and done very professionally. It was a packed house, and it seemed to be received well by all audience members.
Describing the Six elements of theatre for this production may be a little difficult, because they

Even though not always on the outside, you could really feel what the performers were trying to do, or say. They may not always be on point, and maybe not everything was done how they envisioned it maybe. But, they can all rest assured that we all got their points, they were trying to make. For example, I didn’t find myself applauding when nobody else was, or laughing when it wasn’t time to laugh. One memorable moment, was when I saw someone crying. I didn’t think in a college play I would find someone “actually” crying. Not to mention all that kissing as well. Never believed that would of happened in a college production as well. You could really tell that they weren’t holding back, even though they may or may not have been together, in real life, off stage. These are qualities that I would expect to be, at very least to be in an off, or off-off Broadway show production.
The music during this play didn’t stand out to me really at all. It wasn’t because of poor music choices, or who was playing, or because the actors went singing along with it in anyway. It was because there wasn’t a whole lot going on to begin with. I would expect people to be running around, or even reacting to the music, with singing, and/or dancing to a couple notes here, and there. I believe it was just used, as background music, or for ambience. This want a musical, and I didn’t really notice it too much during the play

It had way more detail then I would have ever thought to be in a play of this size. Walls, were used in a way, that I wish I could do with some of the walls in my apartment. It would be lot bigger than just one room, I know that much at least. I was a little surprised to see the actors dressed as well as they were. I think that is what stood out the most to me. I just loved the way everyone was dressed, and it looked like everyone had an enjoyable time, playing dress up. Everyone was put together very well, and I think that they all had at least some say, in what they wore, because they seemed comfortable, even though I could tell that no detail was over looked. When it came to the way they dressed, and the way their wardrobe interacted with others in the play, I would give this aspect a ten. It just flowed well, and I think the wardrobe played the biggest part of this
Pause for a second and think about a play or musical that you have seen. Consider the plot, whether you liked it or not and if the experience was positive or negative. Think about the characters, the costumes, and the emotions that were emitted. The discourse community of theatre is unique in the way that it is so complex and there are many different parts that ultimately come together to create a dynamic whole. The term discourse community is rather broad, but John Swales in his article “The Concept of Discourse Community” gives six characteristics that define it. Swales lists them saying,
...tly, the costumes in this production of Wicked were incredible! There were so many beautiful costumes! Many were very elaborate and detailed, while there were also various simple and elegant costumes. This was extremely refreshing to see as an audience member. The costumes always matched the characters’ emotions, which made the plot go along much smoother. I noticed that in numerous scenes the costumes were the same color as the lighting in the scene. I think the director did this on purpose to emphasize certain moods, but in some cases, a variety of colors would have worked better.
One of its numerous strengths was the costuming and set. This musical would not have been the same had these elements not come together to transport the viewer. In addition to the costuming and the set, the actors were very well cast. Each actor was in a role that fit them and they portrayed their characters very well. For example, the man who played Glen really seemed like a greedy Wall Street worker. The choreography was also well done. It fit true to the style of dance in the 1980s and added to the immersion experience. The only thing that could have made this experience better would be to add more music. This may just be a personal preference, but when I see a musical I like for the music to be central like it is in Hamilton or Les Miserables. However, this musical was very good and not much could be added to enhance the
First impression of the play when I first walked in was one of confusion. The stage design was not distinguishable. I could not tell what was going on or what it was supposed to be. One thing I could
Overall, I really enjoyed the production. The storyline itself, the acting, and all the designs were amazing. Despite there being a lot of sexual terms and cuss words mention, the plot serves as a good lesson for teens and especially parents and teachers. This play teaches parents to be more open and accepting to their children. This also serves as a lesson for teachers to be less harsh to students. I would definitely want to watch it again. In fact, NCTC produced a Spring Awakening concert performing only the songs. I watched that as well and this time I was singing along!
The characters were very funny and were developed well over the musical. The costumes were excellent for the musical and were not only well made but fit the musical perfectly. One costume that stood out to me was Jesus’s costume, which was a simple white robe but had a cross like pattern of lights on his body. The Mormons were also dressed in the stereotypical Mormon missionary outfit with the pants and the tie. The set was very well made and I really like the interactions the people had with the village set. However, the best aspect of the show was the music. Each song not only contributed to the development of the story excellently, but also had the audience laughing at every song. The pit orchestra (the heroes of every musical) had many very talented musicians and contributed significantly to the musical.
... compared to the Broadway Musicals. This was my first time to see a play at Parkland Theatre and I didn’t know what to expect before the show, but I gained a lot more after the pleasent show. I think the Spamalot had opened be an opportunity to get involved and interested in the theatre productions more and before taking the class, I didn’t consider anyother aspects other than the plot of a show but learning about it really had opened my eyes to focus on various aspects of a theatre production. I am very excited to see other plays that is coming up and Spamalot has was one of the most interesting plays that I have seen. By thinking about all the music, acting, setting, and the lighting in mind, I think Spamalot was very successful in every aspect and it didn’t miss to grasp laughter from the audience that made the show both high in cinematic quality and amusements.
Overall, I enjoyed this play. Even with the dull ending, I found it to be entertaining and a good use of my time. The cast was great and they made good use of a decent
First of all, I’m going to start with musical comedy murder of 1940. Before the play started I was skeptical about watching a play because I thought it was going to be boring. I had a long time not attending to a theatrical play so; I kind of forgot how it felt to be watching a live play. When I arrived to the theater I felted welcome pleasant from the people who welcomed everyone to come inside the theatre. The play turns out to be amazing through the whole play I was laughing, excited it really caught my attention because the actors did a terrific job playing each scene and lines. The setting and lights of the play was plan very well for example; in of the scene actors and actress talked
The production had many elements which for the most part formed a coalition to further the plot. The characters, the three part scenery and costumes represented well the period of time these people were going through. As far as the performers entering and exiting the stage, it could have been more organized. There were a few times when the performers exited at the wrong times or it seemed so due to the echo of the music. At certain moments the music was slightly loud and drowned the performers. Many of the songs dragged on, so the pacing could have been more effectively executed. Though the music was off at times, the director's decision to have most of the songs performed center sage was a wise one. Also the implementation of actual white characters that were competent in their roles came as a great surprise to the audience and heightened the realism.
The audience, for the most part, seemed to be made up of college students attending for the same reasons as myself. However, there were some audience members who are part of older age groups in the audience. They were there only seeking a good performance and a great time. These older age group audience members were located mostly in the center section of the theatre seated in the first few rows. The dress was more casual among the students but dressier for the older people. Some people were in jeans and a T-shirt, including myself, while some wore nice clothes. The audience rewarded each soloist with a warm ovation of applause after their turn was finished. This led me to believe the audience enjoyed the performance and was very respectable to the performers.
From the scene set up to the clothes each actor wore it was all very impressing. The scene set up was a beauty shop and was extremely accurate and realistic. The play had four scenes and each scene was a different season. For each season the “beauty shop” was filled with props. In December it was filled with Christmas trees and ornaments. The clothes each actor wore fit each character’s personality. For example, Annelle was seen as very quirky and always would wear “dorky” clothes. The use of spectacle in this play left no room for imagination because they had everything layer out for
the play was good. The first act was a little slow and tedious but the
When you read this play, take special care to remember the difference between the work of a playwright and that of a novelist. Novelists may imagine their audience as an individual with book in band, but a playwright writes with a theater full of people in mind. Playwrights know that the script is just the blueprint from which actors, producers, stagehands, musicians, scenic designers, make-up artists, and costumers begin. You will need to use an extra measure of imagination to evaluate this play before you see the Goodman production.
There wasn’t any particular scene on stage that made me doubt the integrative work of the director since all the staging work such as lighting, design, costumes and performance were well coordinated and blended for a very good production. The lights were well positioned with well fitted costumes and a very ideal scene to match. There wasn’t much change of scenes in the play except for some movement of tables and chairs. There was an entrance and exit for the performers which made their movements uninterrupted. There was a loud sound of a bell when school was over while the lights were dimmed whenever there was a change of scene. The pace of the production was very smooth since one scene followed the other without delay and most likely because most of the performers wore the same costume; especially all eight students wore the same costume for the entire
