Islam was an amazing place to be during the 7th and 8th centuries, in that short amount of time Islam grew extensively. They held many tactics that caused that growth. A lot of civilizations wonder how they were able to do so. Bribery, treaties, and warfare all played key roles in the growth of islam.
To start off, islam's growth was warfare. One famous battle was the battle of yarmuk. This battle was famous for its persistence in being brutal. One of the woman one of the woman of the battle, the daughter of Utbah, was especially brutal yelling “‘ Cut the arms of these non-Muslims with your sword!”’ (Doc A lines 18-19) These words were stated over and over again until 24,000 muslims won against 70,000 greeks. Treaties were a good way to save lives, and settle things in a civil way. Muslims were very kind with their treaties, “His followers will not be killed or taken prisoner, nor will they be separated from their women and children,” ( Doc B lines 4-6). They didn’t burn down villages, and they didn’t take sacred objects ( Doc B lines 6-8). Treaties were a big aspect of the spread of islam.
The last tactic muslims used is bribery. Muslims used this tactic to keep their citizens loyal. Although muslims did not force a religion on their people they did highly suggest that they were muslim. “ In most cases, it appears that these individuals were required to embrace islam in order to receive their stipend,” ( Doc C lines 13-16).
