Introduction
What makes champions in sport? At the end of the day, it is the moment when one stands at the top of the podium, holding up their well-deserved medals and trophies that all elite athletes strive for. Thus, experts have studied this question extensively to see which programs, or by what means, are elite athletes developed to achieve this goal. One of the many aspects to athlete development is the controversial topic of deliberate practice versus deliberate play. Deliberate practice can be defined as “any training activity (a) undertaken with the specific purpose of increasing performance, (b) requiring cognitive and/or physical effort, and (c) relevant to promoting positive skill development” (Cote et al., 2007, p. 185)

Coaching can have positives and negatives. When a coach is successful, the players will always hold on to those memories, and also cherish those memories. Not only is a coach winning but he or she is also changing the athlete’s life forever. Although bad coaching can alter the opinion of the athlete, different types of coaching can affect different players. In addition, a sports coach needs to be patient when dealing with others because it is often that many athletes do not reach the certain requirement on the spot and that can be very stressful if the sports coach gets frustrated easily. If an athlete fails to reach the expected performance, sports coaches would have to exhibit the Investigative personality by analysing the strength and weakness of the athlete, the tenacity of the training alongside with other factors that could hinder the athlete’s performance in order to bring coaching to a next level. For many years the wining averages were used to dictate the achievements on how the two interacted. It was believed that if a team has more wins than loses that the coach and athlete combination was superb. The win – loss record has been established as a longstanding instrument measuring the success of athletic players and coaches. However, this is not really a direct correlation to the coach’s effectiveness in a particular sport, being that there are many other factors in coaching a team other than game records. The coach’s job is to enhance to the athlete physically, socially, and psychologically, winning is only considered a by-product of that job (Gillham, Burton, & Gillham, 2013). Gillham, Burton, and Gillham (2013) focused on developing a Coaching Success Questionnaire-2 to allow a means of evaluating other aspects of a coach’s interaction with their athletes as both a research and coach devel...

My Personal Coaching Philosophy will be effective because I will take a child centered approach to sports development. This means I will place a heavy emphasis on child development theory and incorporate it into every aspect of the program. Knowing what kids are trying to accomplish at each stage of childhood gives me a unique perspective. It gives me insight into behavior and in many cases allows me to understand how children think, learn and react to certain situations. This insight also allows me to understand the children’s needs and put those needs first. Not in a kids will do whatever they want sort of way, but in a way that has purpose and considers what is going on in terms of their development.
