A sports medicine physician is someone who works with athletes to help treat or prevent injuries during a physical activity. These physicians perform many tasks to make sure athletes remain safe and perform at the best of their abilities. A sports medicine physician can also observe an individual’s mental and physical well-being to make sure that he or she is capable of participating in a competitive activity. The work of a sports medicine physician is critically important to many, if not all, athletes. The occupation of a sports medicine physician dates back to the fifth century before Christ.
