The most common reference to demons in the Bible is Luke 8:26-33 where Jesus casts out demons in a man and tells them to go into the herd of pigs nearby. Matthew 15:21-28, also gives an account of a demon possessed girl,
“Then Jesus went thence, and departed into the coasts of Tyre and Sidon. Spiritual warfare is when Christians take a stand against evil forces (Satan, fallen angels, and demons). It is very evident throughout the Bible that there is a battle between the supernatural. 1 Peter 5:8 says, “Be sober, be vigilant; because your adversary the devil, as a roaring lion, walketh about, seeking whom he may devour.” This verse is referring to Satan and it is saying that he is walking the earth looking for people that are weak and vulnerable to his attacks. He wants to turn people away from God and he will do that in any way he can. Peter warns people that they must be diligent because Satan is very powerful and he is not afraid of people. Christians are the front lines in spiritual warfare. Christians cannot forget that Satan is allowed to attack believers as in Job (Got Questions Ministry, 2011). Although he is allowed to attack believers Satan’s power is limited and he can only do what God allows him to do. God only lets him do things that will help Christians to mature and help bring glory and honor to God (Got Questions Ministry, 2011). Satan’s strategy is to blind people to God’s plan for their life. He wants people to turn their eyes away from God’s truth and look towards themselves. The way to resist Satan is to stay near to God and His Word. Those that have a close walk with God will be able to rely on God to help them through the temptations that Satan brings to them. Also, to resist Satan we need to put on the whole armour of God which includes; truth, righteousness, the gospel, faith, salvation, the Word of God, and prayer.
