Spirit Lake Vacation

“Traveling – it leaves you speechless, then turns you into a storyteller.” – Ibn Battuta. It was the summer of 2017 and my family which consisted of my mom, somewhat-dad, and sister decided that we felt like we needed to get out of town and eclipse our normal vacation routine. Our normal vacation would be to go to Spirit Lake, but we wanted to do more than that. This experience is important to me because I spent time with my family, found out I enjoyed going on hikes, and I saw great, inimitable beauty in nature. Of course, every trip begins with the travel to get to that location. On the way up to the Black Hills in South Dakota, my family and I played many games; from sudoku to how many state license plates we could find. We saw many license plates along the way but since we did not find all, we decided that we would continue our search later. Once we began to reach our destination, near the Black Hills, I noticed how peerless the Black Hills was to the normal corn and bean fields I always see. I see all the trees and nature and feel excited to go on a hike. When we arrive at our camp we set up our campsite and cook food to eat before we head to bed. I have never seen nature this impeccable. On the hike, I got to see a tree called a lover’s tree where part of it looks like a heart. Many people carve their initials onto the tree and I think that those initials add value to the tree. As we continue our hike we step over tree roots, go up steep hills needing to be careful not trip and roll down the steep side, and we crossed the river, at least, more than five times. When you cross the river it’s best to wear proper shoes or you may slip off a rock or log and fall into the river. The river is not deep and it is okay to walk in, but if you don’t want to get your feet wet then this is not the hike for
