Speech Reflection

Before I start I just want to say that Speech was a class that I never really looked forward to taking and I would always avoid it hence why I decided to take it last. I was never a good speaker and never did I want to speak especially in front of a class of people. I was the type of person who got anxiety at the slightest thought of speaking in front of people and when I did speak before people It would send me and my brain into an abysmal state of shock, my thoughts seemed paralyzed as if they were frozen in time and yet they weren’t it was just the opposite, they were racing through my brain so fast I could only pick out one sentence. The ways I this class has attributed to me as a public speaker. My strengths as a speaker before this class was my posture and my nonverbal gestures. Lesson after lesson I felt myself getting more comfortable speaking and being not as nervous and or having less anxiety. When I felt less anxiety I felt like I could think more clearly and my thoughts seemed well organized, it was a really good feeling. Re-watching some of my videos helped me prepare for the next one pointing out my flaws such as things that I need work, better pronunciation, more relaxed speaking pace and so on. In between the lessons I would look for articles published by great public speakers and read them for inspiration. I did stumble upon this article that has helped me immensely. The article was full of great tips but there was one tip that stuck out to me. One being “The biggest key is just to admit you are nervous” after thinking about this and then admitting I was nervous before a speech, admitting I will screw up and not to focus on that one fault but focusing on keeping composure. Even the greatest of speakers are not perfect, which is the reason they are great speakers. Because they can mess up and no one will notice because they are able to remain so composed and
