We celebrate holidays like Victoria day and many people don’t even realize the reason why they don’t have to show up for work on this statutory holiday. Victoria day had begun in 1845 under the reign of Queen Victoria, it was really a celebration of her birthday. During her monarchy she had been the longest ruler to date and when she passed in 1901 the Canadian government officially recognized May 24 as a nation holiday called Victoria Day. During her time ruling people celebrated the day in many of the same ways we do today including camping, fireworks and parades, what really made this special though was the fact that it united Canada between the French and English Canadians. During this time monarchy separated Canadians from Americans and support for a monarchy meant protection of minority rights, so pledging allegiance to the crown through a holiday was a very rare common ground that both French and English citizens could enjoy. It is unfortunate that most people have grown accustomed to the holiday without taking the time to understand and appreciate the actual reason for the celebration. Victoria day is much more than just celebrating the birthday of a famous monarch it was paying respect to the longest running monarch in England of 63 years and uniting a feuding people. Some people may argue that if no one knows what we are commemorating than maybe we should just put an end to it. For me this
Australia Day, celebrated on the 26th of January every year, is a nationally recognised day that signifies the anniversary of the arrival of the First Fleet. It’s a historic event that also marks the beginning of the oppression of the Indigenous people, that still can occur today, no matter how much the Government has tried to atone for the sins of the past. Australia Day is a day of celebration and mourning, a fact that contributes to the constant bickering between the Indigenous and non-Indigenous. There are many who believe that the meaning behind the modern Australia Day is overshadowed by the past, which will prevent the nation from moving forward, much like Ben Roberts-Smith who published an opinion piece in the Herald Sun on the 26th
I left to be free. I'm Arnald the turkey. I was in a pen for what seemed like forever. I ran away because they said Thanksgiving was coming. They said they would pick the meatiest one of all the turkeys on the farm. I new I was the one. I had heard of this dredful holiday but I had never experanst it. So I knew I had to plan my escape. So my plan was to go in the hole were Peter the pig goes poo-poo. And travel under ground until I saw another hole. I went up and I felt like I was in a different world. Then I saw a man I was to tired to run but he did not want me for Thanksgiving. I'm so glad I ran
Have you ever been away from someone so long and then with them for so short of a time, but in that time you see how wonderful this person is, and they leave a mark on everybody they meet, see or touch. The thing is this person has a big problem despite how many people they touch on the outside world, the truth is their family is falling apart …you’d never think this beautiful person has a dysfunctional family. This is a story about a lady I can call grandmother her name is Ms. Carolyn Ruth Norwood. My grandmother is a no nonsense person when it comes to her small family she always wants us to do our best in whatever we’re doing no matter what; I’ve always enjoyed having someone to motivate me with humor. It amazes me how the world works because

When the great holiday of Thanksgiving comes to mind, most people think of becoming total gluttons and gorging themselves with a seemingly unending amount of food. Others might think of the time spent with family and friends. The whole basis of the holiday is family togetherness, fellowship, and thankfulness for blessings received during the previous year.

Albert Camus's "Banquet Speech" is revolved around the meaning of art. He defines art as a concept of connecting communities as a whole. Although, art is not a reason for the artist to distinct themselves from the real world. Camus stands behind this when he admits his art is to foresee the truth behind this world and to see deeper into the people suffering from the truth. For him, as the writer, he believes his art work reaches out to everyone because he does not see himself any different from the readers. They are all the same. No judgements or hatred takes place in the piece of work but only the beauty of the community.
Over 200 years later, the Thanksgiving still exists today. President Lincoln declared the last Thursday in November as a national day for Thanksgiving, and in 1941 Congress established the fourth Thursday in November as a national holiday. Since Abraham Lincoln proclaimed a national Thanksgiving holiday in 1863, it has been observed annually. Nowadays, the celebration has changed but still kept the same concept of this day. For instant, the way that people celebrated and the way they did during the feast. Although it might be changed by age, the real purpose is still the same. Thanksgiving is not just a holiday for the American people; it represents the thankfulness of the Pilgrims and the beginning of their
My thanksgiving party is huge!!! We invite our huge family over to my house and we have a grand time. We have a lot of games planned so that no one is bored. But if they do get bored every once in awhile, then we have the football game on so that they can relax and watch that. We aren't the only family that ginormous party just like my family or they might just have a miniature party that is very quiet with just a couple of family members.
Who doesn’t just adore Thanksgiving? With all of the delicious food prepared for one large, immaculate meal. Well I guess it can easily get overshadowed considering it is between the holidays of Halloween and Christmas. Even at that there is great array on how it is celebrated. Traditions vary from family to family. Some take this holiday very seriously and go all out, others simply don’t.
Hello there. Thanksgiving is coming up and well here is how my thanksgiving goes. Well it is very chaotic. Also it is almost always at my grandparents house. You might wonder why we do it if it is chaotic. Well it is because of family and family sticks together.
Good Evening everyone, thank you for attending tonight’s ceremony. First, I would like to thank God for giving us another day. Now, on to the program. We are here to celebrate the achievement of my father, Lester King, earning the rank of Lt. Colonel in the military. He has earned this prestige after years of hard work, dedication, commitment, and sacrifice, being an example of excellence for those around him. Most of all, he has displayed a sturdy and steady pace of leadership. It hasn’t come easy though; as a youth in Antigua, he had to wake up early in the morning to milk cows before school, and then had to walk a few miles to school EVERY SINGLE DAY. This display of conquering challenges translated into the classroom, where he excelled
