Special Sports: Down Syndrome Children

We live in a world where sports are an essential part of our society because of the unity it brings and the lessons it teaches, such as hard work and dedication. In the United States, three out of four kids have played a sport. However, a majority of Down syndrome kids do not play organized sports. Down syndrome children are hindered from playing because of their disabilities. An event called "Special Games" will bring a solution to this problem. Having a sports event for the children, where they will spend a Saturday every month having a whole day of playing different sports, will unite communities, will teach people life lessons, and will give these children an opportunity to play and have fun. This event will be able to bring communities together. This event will be through a designated school in the county, and it will take place the first Saturday of everymonth. All down syndrome children and adults across different counties are welcomed. The event will be held on a Saturday, and take place 9:00 a.m.-3:00p.m., and lunch will be provided through the school and through other donations. …show more content…

Volunteers will be provided who can help organize and referee the games. Some high school players from different teams from basketball, soccer, football, etc, will teach and give Down syndrome kids pointers on the specific sport. This interaction, for the teenage players teaches friendship, helpfulness, and kindness. For example, some teenagers have never talked or have had a relationship with a Down syndrome child; this event will broaden their eyes to and create a relationship with someone who is different. The Down syndrome children can teach the teenagers as well with their kindness and friendliness to all people whoever it is. The players, volunteers, and the Down syndrome children will remember this event as a positive experience and a treasure in their
