Personal Statement Every person experiences a special moment in the life for the first time. My special moments include learning to play a song on the guitar for the first time, hitting a golf ball for the first time, and being the first member of my family to be born in Canada. One special moment that stands out the most to me would be receiving my acceptance letter to attend university. Being accepted meant I would be the first person in my family with a winning chance to obtain a university degree. Before I was born, my family had been sponsored to Moose Jaw, Saskatchewan after fleeing the civil war in Cambodia in the early 1990 's. During my second year, I was fortunate enough to be hired by Preston Early Learning Centre at Holy Family Catholic School in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan. While still attending classes, I worked from three to six hours every weekday as a before and after school program leader. I had the responsibility to care for children at a variety of different ages. Being a leader, it was important for myself to consistently demonstrate positive interaction with all the children, and treat them with the dignity and respect they deserve. At a young age, it is important for children to develop a positive self-esteem and I believe that we as adults have a large impact on how children view themselves. Positive discipline and clear communication are key factors in my job as it is important for parents to know of any issues and concerns, and for the students to have clear expectations. Working at an elementary school has taught me strategies and techniques on how to deal with stressful situations and has improved my problem-solving skills. Having the opportunity to work with children has shaped me into being a stronger and superior leader, and has inspired me into being a mentor for individuals who have dreams and
