Whatever it be, people need to grow, make decisions, and persevere; going against the odds and obstacles that get in their way, in order to reach their potential, find their calling, and ultimately find themselves. The road is often difficult, but certainly worthwhile. Struggles, setbacks, failure and regret are often encountered. However, it is the drive for "more", or the "making of a name", whatever that may look like, that pushes people to reach for things they thought not possible. This theme is portrayed throughout Tennyson's famous "Ulysses" and Eminem's Oscar winning song, "Lose Yourself." When comparing the written work of Tennyson to the lyrics by Eminem, it becomes apparent that age, race, class, or profession mean nothing when it comes to "making a name." Poetry is a literary form of art in which poets express their emotions and opinions about the world. There are many forms of poetry and goals that poems wish to achieve. Some poems exist merely for the reason of entertainment and release of emotions, but poems should exist as a form of art that is trying to achieve something or get a point across. Poems typically have an overreaching theme and can “speak to each other” or in other words can relate to one another. For one to understand these themes and connections among poems one must use a method of closing read. My Last Duchess by Robert Browning centers on historical events revolving around the Duke of Ferrara-Alfonso. Alonso the speaker of the poem narrates how he is entertaining and envoy sent to negotiate his second marriage after the death of his first wife. As he shows the visitors around the palace, he stops in front of the late Duchess’s portraits and starts recalling past events through monologue. The reader realizes that the Duke caused the death of the Duchess. On the other hand, My Ex- Husband by Gabriel Spera depicts a woman who found strength to fight for her beliefs when she discovered that her spouse was having another affair. As the poem beginning, the woman is preparing to go out with her new lover when he notices the picture of her former husband hanging on the wall. In Both poems, the new spouses discover the speakers’ former relationships through pictures hung on the wall. The two poems make use of dramatic monologue to reveal their history and personality. Changing the sexes of the speakers in the two poems is not going to change the theme of Jealousy in both poems.

Comparing War Poems Died of Wounds and Suicide in the Trenches are two poems, which I will be comparing the similarities and differences, which were written by the same author. Both these poems were written by a person called Siegfried Sasson, who wrote most of his poems during the World War One, which outlined how bad the war was to those at home after suffering from being Shell Shocked. I will be comparing the language it uses, ideas it contains and the way it is structured between both poems, which Siegfried Sasson uses to demonstrate that war is evil, and should be stopped. The theme in Died of Wounds is that soldiers become shell-shocked and go insane. They also suffer from mental and emotional scars, long after the battle, and the pain and death are unknown and unimportant to those who support the war.
There are many written genres associated with academia that sometimes students get very confused when it comes to distinguish each one of them. A person or a student can spend one entire day thinking at different types of genres related to academia that he or she would come up with a thousand different examples by the end of the day. It is very difficult to give an exact definition to the word genre: there are many points of view regarding this argument that every person develops his/her own definition. To fully understand poetry is important to also focus on the many subgenres it holds in order to have a greater knowledge of this type of literary work.
In life there are going to be things that are going to be different from other things. That’s is just how life is. To see all of the similarities is a very easy thing to do. But to have a profound knowledge of what the differences are, is a little challenging. In stories however it is really easy to detect the differences from the similarities. Poems on the other hand have a lot of different ways that they could be written and they also have a lot of different name, depending on the type of poem. There are poems that are really long and that are about ancient heroes, those are called epic poems.
