A song that helped me throughout my life is Already Gone by Bayside. The song was released on the Killing Time album in 2011; the year my life took a different turn. All within the year 2011, I had graduated high school, been accepted to California Baptist University, had two serious bodily injuries where one required emergency surgery, and had been working near full time as a lowly pizza delivery driver to make ends meet. It doesn’t seem like much, but around that same time, my grandmother on my mother’s side had been diagnosed with dementia and needed around the clock care and had to be placed in a lockdown dementia home. My mom, who had become the executor over my grandmother through several court cases and family fights with my uncle who …show more content…
Already Gone, has a 4/4 time signature and has several repeated riffs in the verses and chorus and is in a D standard tuning. Bayside, in general and not only in Already Gone, use metaphors that are indirect and make you think while still using powerful words to make stunning and decisive lyrics. These metaphors are similar to Lead Belly’s, Where Did You Sleep Last Night. Belly’s song is a large metaphor for a very serious and life changing situation. When the song reaches the third verse, the tone changes, the riff changes, and all instruments slow down to make a very serious statement within the lyrics by saying, “I know it’s cold but I will keep us warm//with all the hate I radiate//We’ll be walking hand in hand in hell.” This single line speaks to me because of the struggle our family went through. To this day, everyone outside of my immediate family hates each other to the point of violence when appearing in the same place. The way they treated us was cold, I tried to keep the relationships warm as to not lose them as family even though the pain they put us through may me hate them, and the despite my best efforts, nothing positive

“Over There” is a song written by George M. Cohan in 1917. Nora Bayes, Enrico Caruso, Billy Murray, Arthur Fields, and Charles King were among many who recorded the song. It was written as a propaganda piece encouraging young American men to join the army to fight in World War I. The song was incredibly popular, selling over two million copies of sheet music and one million copies of recordings by the end of the war. Cohan, the writer, was eventually even awarded a Congressional Medal of Honor for his work on this song.
“Young and Menace” by Fall Out Boy is the everyman who is reminiscing about their past.
And someday you’re going to die just like someday I’m going to die. But until then you fight like hell to stay alive! You get that! And you’re on your own, because I’m not even here to help you. You’re in my way…and I don’t even know you’re
Feeling unwanted from the closest people in your life who turn away from you when you need them the most, is the worst feeling a person can endure. I chose the song “My Story” by Sean McGee, because people young and old can relate to his song. People from different backgrounds can relate to each other when there are living homeless or raised as a foster child. Sean McGee wrote “my daddy don’t know, my momma don’t care, it don’t matter if I’m here, it don’t matter if I’m dead” people all around the world have the same issues and share a common culture. A master status is the most important status a person occupies, this is a key factor in determining a person’s social position.
Then one day, little did I know my life was going to change. There was one person in particular that I had talked to on few occasions over the time-frame of about nine months. We finally agreed to meet and it want amazingly. One of the things that he told me that night was, “I’m gonna take care of you.” It was not meant to be this dramatic, time-stopping moment but it was. The perfect song to describe it is the song “Take Care” by Drake and Rihanna. The chorus of the song is, “I know you’ve been hurt by someone else. I can tell by the way you carry yourself. If you love me, here’s what I’ll do: I’ll take care of you.” We both have been hurt multiple times and have gone through multiple trials throughout life. Because of challenges we have faced, we are both stronger people and it makes our relationship stronger than

My parents were separated and then divorced when I was young. My mom was always stressed out with the workload that she took on, so there really no surprise to the way she reacted when something tragic happened. In July of 2011 my uncle, my mom's brother, passed away.

The song that I choose to do this assignment on is Fight the Power by Public Enemy. Fight the Power was written in 1989 and quickly became a street anthem for millions of youths. It reflects with issues dealing with both the Civil Rights Movement and to remind everyone that they too have Constitutional Rights. This particular song is about empowerment but also fighting the abuse of power that is given to the law enforcement agencies. It gave citizens of the U.S a more modern outlook on the many struggles that not only the African American community is up against but the other minority groups as well. The song’s message was eventually supposed to bring people together and make the world a better place, even though some teens saw it as a way
"Fun" is an American indie pop band formed by Nate Ruess in 2008. Since then they have released two albums, Aim and Ignite in 2009 and Some Nights in 2012. Both of these albums were both financially successful because of their deep and meaningful lyrics that Nate himself wrote. Their song, “Some Nights”, was released on June 4, 2012 as part of the album with the same name.
I have been very fortunate to have known my maternal and paternal grandparents and great-grandparents. We enjoy a close family and always have. Sadly, my first experience with a close death was when my paternal grandma died at the age of sixty-four of colon cancer. I was in the ninth grade when she died and hers’ was the first wake and funeral I had experienced. I remember having nightmares for weeks after the funeral. As I grew older, I lost my
Everyone has a different perception of life. Perhaps the norm says we always choose life; social mores and traditions in western culture suggest that there really are no choices in this regard. We all have our obstacles that we face during the time we spend on this earth and are also faced with live changing decisions. In ‘night, Mother, it’s indicated Jessie Cates had struggled throughout her life with depression, seizures, memory loss, abandonment, a forced marriage and a controlling mother. She knew no other world, enslaved to these conditions of her existence and base of familiarity. Her concept of time was blurred.
Our family was never close but we didn’t care. Nobody thought one day things might be different. All of that changed on September 20, 2014 when a hostile argument ended with the death of both my aunt and uncle. For years their marriage was falling apart. My aunt was very materialistic and wanted my cousins to have whatever they asked for but in reality my uncle knew it was impossible financially for them to achieve this. He would try to explain this to her but it usually led to arguments where she would then threaten to leave him so in the end she got her way which led to their vast debt. My uncle had a drinking problem but went to AA classes for her to commiserate their marriage and family. The night before this event he had drank a beer which led into a dispute which ended with my aunt taking the kids to her mom’s and they stayed their while my uncle just stayed home. Less than twelve hours later the mailman walked up to a house with my aunt dead on the front porch and my uncle inside on the living room floor dead. The screams caught the attention of the neighbors and the police was then called. This is a significant experience in my life that I faced and that had an impact on me during my freshman year and still affects me today. It was a homicide/suicide accident and it deeply impacted my family and me. Not only did it affect my school life but my home life as well.
In his self-directed video compilation, the Diasporadical Trilogia, Ghanaian-American musician Blitz the Ambassador solidifies his presence as a social activist and visual artist. His vividly accurate portrayals and unconventional presentations all distinguish him as a truly unique talent among proponents of Pan Africanism. While at first glance, the videos in the trilogy (Shine, Juju Girl, and Running) seem unrelated—varying in musical tone/characteristics, lyrics, and video concept—they are linked by their depictions of issues faced by those part of the African diaspora and on the continent.
