The Dave Matthews Band has been a musical power house for years. They have meshed together almost every type of music together to create their extremely unique sounds and attractiveness towards their music. Dave Matthews, lead singer and guitarist from South Africa has put together a band that no one will ever be able to create again. Dave picked four extremely talented and unique sounding men to join his band and together they have created some amazing music. The members of the band include Stefan Lessard on bass, Boyd Tinsley on violin, Leroi Moore on saxophone and one of the best drummers in the world, Carter Beauford. Together these men will one day leave behind a similar reputation as one of the all time greatest "jam" bands of time. Dave Matthews' first solo album, Some Devil, was released in 2003. It was reviewed as an album much different than the many other's the band has released. Very little "jamming" was put into it and the themes in the lyrics were more morbid and serious as ever before. Some Devil is more about giving Matthews a platform to showcase his singer and songwriter side, by releasing serious and straightforward tunes with a slower beat. The album causes many to ask themselves, could there be an outstanding poet lurking behind Americas favorite "frat" boy band? One of the songs on this album, "Gravedigger" might stand out to one who has listened to the band before. Instead of displaying a hippie, live life to its fullest theme, the idea in this song is of life leading to death. The narrator, Dave, is introducing us in first person to four different people who are all in turn brought together by a gravedigger. Dave speaks to the gravedigger, although never answered, in the song by asking, " Will... ... middle of paper ... ... of him making it into a sad horror story, he finds death to be a joke. He doesn't really care where he is buried but is extremely cynical when he ask that after being dead, will he still feel the rain? The analysis of this song lead me to actually dislike the song because I found that my first impression of the song was much different than after analyzing it for weeks. I love the bands music but I just don't like this one particular song. I guess there are many ways to interpret this song but I feel as if the song is way to deep in thought for a singer such as Dave Matthews. As Dave stated at one of his concerts, "Some people drink, and some don't; some people like to smoke a bowl, and some don't. Some people do and some people don't but its ok `cause it was ment to be that way." Dave Matthews is no Wordsworth, but its ok because it was meant to be that way!
When Lee first introduced his readers, he started off with a beautiful metaphor to summarize how every human’s life goes as he wrote, “We are circuit boards swallowing the electricity of life upon birth,” (Lines 2 to 3, Lee). To clarify, Lee is explaining the beauty of life when we are alive and how we essentially use this electricity to create unforgettable memories along with emphasizing the importance of existing. However, not long into the poem, a sudden change in the emotion occurs as Lee depicted Stephen’s death with, “…as though his chest were an auditorium his life an audience leaving single file,” (Lines 24 to 25, Lee). In consideration with how the main lesson Lee was applying on his poem, it is easily visible that this sudden change in mood was done purposefully. With this dark simile, readers will be captured and feel that sudden shock in mixed emotion when someone’s death occurs. In effect, not only will readers who have seen death understand, but Lee also taught readers who have not seen a similar event what will happen, allowing any reader to understand the topic even without any past experiences. Quickly after though, Lee re-introduces a cheerful environment with similes to describe the people he has found as he visualized, “…his lungs flapping like sails,” and, “…teeth shinning like
The song “Ants Marching” by Dave Matthews Band has several connections to Fahrenheit 451. For example, the line “cut, cut on the fence not offend” (Dave Matthews Band) directly ties into the book. People in the Fahrenheit 451 society are so fastidious as to not offend people that they lose the power to change lives through knowledge. These citizens have cut off their ability to truly understand others and the world around them the minute they tossed the first book into the crackling orange-and-red blaze, sparking a nationwide holocaust of valuable lessons and ideas. This song became the perfect background for PSA's. Maybe, after all, there was more to this band than sexuality and drugs. This album has a bit of each of the necessary elements to become a hit. In fact, it has. much more than that.
Ringing in the New Year, we’ve chosen an individual who has created his own music and created interesting remixes of other songs over the course of (now) 16 years. We enjoy the twists he plays on his music and admire his efforts to take his music to live performance stage. Local to Brick Township, NJ, Brian Stewart (DJversion666) started out, born and raised, in Evansville Indiana, playing in a multitude of bands, playing bass and/or singing various genres of music. Upon moving to Nashville, he has done studio work, laying down bass tracks for commercials and advertisements. Continuing down the path of music Stewart attended Berklee College of Music in Boston, Massachusetts. He combines various genres and ties them all together with an industrial sound.
“Hurt” a song originally recorded by Nine Inch Nails which portrays self-harm and heroin addiction has been covered by many great artists including Johnny cash. When Johnny cash covered this song I got a deferent message from the lyrics while he sings it, maybe it is because of his voice or how he lived his life, but when he is singing this song I get a sense that he is singing about a loved one that has passed on, growing older, and his legacy.
After a few moments, he settles and reflects, “I thought about him, fog on the lake, insects chirring eerily, and felt the tug of fear, felt the darkness opening up inside me like a set of jaws. Who was he, I wondered, this victim of time and circumstance bobbing sorrowfully in the lake at my back” (193). The narrator can almost envision himself as the man whose corpse is before him. Both deceased from mysterious causes, involved in shady activities, and left to rot in the stagnant lake water, and never to be discovered by the outside world. This marks the point where the main character is the closest he has ever been to death.

Some people are born to become legends, Bruce Springsteen is one of them. From the second he was born and through his younger years everyone knew he was destined for something bigger than a regular nine to five life, they just didn’t realize the magnitude of what was to come. Born into a all around food middle-class family, no on in that house hold even Bruce, didn’t realize that within fifty years he would reach living legend status. Also have a title of one of the best musicians to every live. After working hard at what he loves, Bruce has become known as a musical hero and inspiration to his fans and fellow musicians. With his deep lyrics, amazing stage presence, incredible guitar skills, and his passion, he is an untouchable force in the music industry. Using his lyrics to vent his emotions and past, but to also add awareness to social issues around the world. Bruce and his love for music affected him his whole life, and has shaped into what he is today. His music now affects the world. His music has truly changed the world (musically and socially) forever.
The relevance of the song was portraying that using drugs and alcohol will help you escape life situations. Regardless of how hard or tough it is. All you need to do is to get drunk or get high, than your problems will flush away. But the video don’t explain the reality of the outcome of how drugs and alcohol will or could affect your lifestyle and how it could lead you to lose your job, family and life. Death can be very scary for the elder and young. One never really knows how they will react to the event of death. Even though inevitable, death can be shocking for some or troubling for others. A shocking and a troubling reality of death are depicted in two short stories, Used to Live Here Once by Jean Rhys and A Father’s Story by Andre Dubus. How characters in a story react to death are often different from one another.
Death is the inevitable and unavoidable conclusion to life. Every human being in the phase of this planet is born with a death sentence. Shakespeare’s “Sonnet 73” tackles the theme of aging and death with an aging speaker who compares his late life to late autumn or early winter. The speaker goes on to explain to his loved one that he/she must express his/her love to him more than ever, as death is upon him. The song “When I Get Where I’m Going”performed by Brad Paisley also tackles the theme of death. The song accomplishes such thing by taking the approach of a man who knows is dying, and who takes a nice approach to it.
