The world cannot live without software engineers. Most modern conveniences (like cellphones, television sets, and even microwave ovens) use digital technology, which uses coding designed and programmed by software engineers. A career as a software engineer is a good career to take because technology will only keep improving and expanding as our need for it increases. The value and importance of software engineers to society can be seen throughout their job, skills, education, wage, and challenges.

The very least a programmer should have is an associate's degree (two-year degree), but to get into the higher-end jobs a person needs a bachelor's degree (four-year degree) in computer science or another similar subject. Two examples of colleges a software engineering student might go to is Keiser University or California College San Diego. It also helps if the programmer takes other courses related to the industry they work in. For example, if the programmer works for a hospital, then extra classes in healthcare helps them to understand what they are programming. Programmers can also get certifications for specific computer languages, which proves that they have successfully passed a test on those languages and have mastered them. Entry-level engineers make up to $60,000 while senior engineers make up to $111,688.
