The client, Ali, is a 15 year old white female attending high school and living in North Kingstown, Rhode Island. She lives with her biological father, but her family system also includes her brother, Larry, biological mother, Carol, and maternal grandmother, Lucinda. She is in overall good health and there was no mention of any physical health concerns. However, based on the descriptions given by her relatives and Ali herself, as well as observations from the first meeting, Ali shows signs of anxiety, depression, and some difficulties understanding social cues. During this initial meeting, Ali and her family did not mention any specific religious or spiritual beliefs. They do practice Christian holidays, as they repeatedly mentioned how hard it is to celebrate Christmas as a big family, but they made no other references to religion. She identifies as a cisgender female and is heterosexual, though she admits to never having any type of romantic relationship before. It appears that she is in the majority race at her high school and does not typically face any racial discrimination. Alameda has had a hard life as a young girl growing up, both of her parents were alcoholics. Alameda was a 16 year old minor who had a baby and dropped out of school, and then was unable to care for the infant. A case manager by the name of Barbara LaRosa was assigned to Alameda case. Barbara took on Alameda as her client and made a visit to her parents’ home, while making the visit she found Alameda dad incompetent, and could not get any information from him to help with his daughter well-being.

Shaniya Robinson arrives at the County Human Services Authority for her monthly appointment with her social worker. Ms. Robinson is a 25 year old African American female who is receiving treatment for schizophrenia from the adult behavioral health services program. During a session the client reports that she is under a great deal of stress because she is having difficulty adjusting to being a new mother. Her five month old baby girl Shanice is teething and cries frequently. Ms. Robinson is also struggling financially because she is currently unemployed; her mental illness makes it difficult to sustain employment long term. And she does not receive support from the child’s father on a consistent basis. The combination of these interactional difficulties is weighing heavily on the client who reports an increase in positive and negative symptoms (i.e. auditory hallucinations and social withdrawal). Because the client does not have insurance she disclosed to her social worker that she self-medicates using marijuana in an effort to manage symptoms. More noteworthy, the client explains that she uses the same method to soothe the baby by blowing marijuana smoke in the infant's face. It is certain that Ms. Robinson divulged such information for several reasons, she wants help and she believes that any information she shares within the context of her sessions are confidential.
Today client number 9302015 came into the Salinas County Psychology Center. His name was Joe Martin also known as Curley. Joe is 40 years old and married. He is also financially stable. His social and family history doesn't have a lot of background because he refused to tell me lots about it. Since he is mean and angry towards others he said that he doesn't have much of a family except for his dad who really isn't around him very much. He has a wife, but he doesn't really care for her. He said he tells her to stay in the house and not to interact with others. When he was questioned why, he remained silent. Race and ethnicity can influence a client’s experience of self and others in a variety of ways. A client’s personal race and ethnicity can influence his or her experience within the context of therapy through the set of beliefs he or she brings into the room. This set of beliefs and customs influences how he or she views therapy and whether there is motivation to be there. If the client’s culture does not usually seek therapy for their problems, or even believe in mental illness, it is likely the client will have apprehensions about trusting or speaking to the clinician. If the clinician is not aware of this possibility, the clinician may wonder why the client is in therapy if he or she will not speak or allow rapport to be built. A responsible clinician will take this into consideration.
June Amberg, is a twenty- one year old African American female. She is 6 ft. tall and weighs about 190 pounds. She has long braids, dark skin with brown eyes. June stated to be a Baptist however is not a consistent member of the church. She is married to Ruben Amberg for the past two years however, she is separated from him. The client related with Clinician because she is from the same race, and grew up in same neighborhood. June was very comfortable in sharing information about her upbringings, her struggles, and mishaps without any fear of being judge. June’s emotional state varies between being manic and being calm during her sessions. June has worked in retail as a Sale Representative for the past 5 years. She lives with mother, Mona Faron who is sixty years old, her sister Jona Faron who is thirty years old, and her twin sister Jessie with her three children James(3), Jessica(2), and Jacob(1) in a two bedroom apartment. She has received treatment for her depression with Jewish Board Family Children Services in the past.

In New York, a minor can obtain mental health services, including counseling and medication management, without the legal guardian’s permission if the parent is deemed detrimental to the minor’s treatment (Feierman, Lieberman, Schissel, Diller, Kim & Chu, 2002). While this agency does prefer to obtain a guardian’s permission for mental health services, this social worker believes in taking a “person first” approach to treatment. Precious reported that she suffered a great deal at the hand of her mother and she did not want her involved in her life. It is not this social worker’s mission to cause Precious more harm, or to allow treatment to be impeded, even if this is an unpopular choice. This social work stands by this decision, because Precious is in desperate need of a safe space to process her trauma.
A. My interest in social work began at a young age. In middle school I started attending my school’s church and became heavily involved in the church’s youth group. It was then that I was first introduced to the act of service and what it really means to help others. As part of our activities, we would feed the homeless and visit convalescent hospitals to volunteer. By participating in these activities, I began to take interest in the homeless and elderly populations. Another avenue that sparked my interest in Social Work was a classmate’s father, who was a Social Worker for the county. He and I would have discussions about the duty of a Social Worker and I would constantly ask him questions to satiate my curiosity about the profession.
In my interview I chose my girlfriend's neighbor. Hector is of Mexican decent and he is here because in Meigs county the produce fields hire Mexican laborers on worker permits. Hector started out doing this then he became the boss about five years ago and received his green card and now is an American and can speak very good English. He explained to me that in Mexico there is no age when you can start working so there are young boys working at six to ten years old to help support his needy family. He also stated that women do not usually work they are only aloud to go to the village markets and get goods for their family's and raise there many children. I asked about minimum wage and he kinda laughed and said some teens and men who work are lucky to get a dollar an hour, but he said the people who are lucky enough to get to do what he got to do make there family's a lot of money. He said when he started coming to America to work he was picked like a lottery pick because there are only so many jobs for little positions he and his entire family was dirt poor, but now he said his family is the richest in the village. He said that he has also got to move all of his immediate family to America.
Sociology is distinguished by the study of sociology theories, which play a significant key role in enabling us to analyze different societies. Sociology theories give us different outlooks different perspectives within factors of different societies that can be analyzed. This will make it easier for someone to understand and predict social behavior and happenings within societies that offer great importance to our generation. Before I started taking the course of sociology I wasn’t really expecting to learn anything, it was just supposed to be an easy online class. However, that was not the case. It challenged my mind. I started to see sociology all around me, starting with family, then friends, and how I see things overall in general. The fact that we have an everyday life in which there are patterns in ways of living is what sets a platform for a sociological breakdown and for being a part in what we do. A better way of understanding ourselves. We use sociology in many ways every day. One central and important study of sociology is the study of everyday social life. Everyday life and sociology are definitely two different words and situations, but they tend to hold a close relationship. While sociology is the study of the human interaction, everyday life consists of everyday human interaction. Everyday life is filled by human beings interacting with one another, ideas, and emotions. Sociology studies the interactions with all of these and shows how mere interaction resulted in things such as ideas. For an example, race and ethnicity are important concepts in the field of sociology and are ones that are studied a great deal. Race plays a large role in everyday human interactions and sociologists want to study how, why, and what the outcomes are of these interactions. For example, the questions, “why do we hurt each other? Why does genocide happen?” can be answered by testing a hypothesis formed from their previous knowledge. To approach this question, social psychologist can use what they have observed to create an experiment. There are many influences on aggression, such as: the physical environment, wealth inequality, social rejection, culture, and media. Social psychologists use all this information to conduct their studies to explain why people hurt others and how people can even participate in genocide.
