Despite the prevalence of sociological trends predicting the decline of religion, sociology of religion is a promising field. The development of sociology was closely tied to the study of religion, the founders of sociology often used religion as a means to study society. Weber and Durkheim were seriously committed to the study of religion while Marx provided thought-provoking ideas upon its relation with society. Despite the insights provided by them, many sociologists after them see religion as a dependent variable, that it is to be explained by looking at other more important factors. When I was in Hong Kong, I 've heard so many scandals regarding religions. I 've heard many monks participating in events that violate their beliefs, such as visiting prostitution facilities. When I came to America, I 've similarly witnessed the changes in Christianity, their accepting attitudes toward what they were against years before, and I 've seen self-claimed followers act differently in different places. While the examples mentioned above can be explained by the secularization thesis, there are definitely some situations that proved otherwise. The rise of ISIS and Islamic society, the social problems presented in Israel, and the conflict between the nations of Jewish and Palestinian that raised global attention. The continues endeavor of Christians to re-enter the political and public sphere in the United States and the constant rebellious forces against that. They all suggested that religion is still important in our daily life. While studying in Community College Foothill, I was given a chance to conduct a study about conformity. My research caught Stanford 's attention and was given the opportunity to present my findings at the conference they provided. In University of California Santa Barbara, I have taken a sociology of religion class, I am familiar with the core theories regarding religion in society. I considered myself as Durkheimian because of the similarity I found in our beliefs. I 've also taken a research method course (ethnographic research) and wrote a research proposal for it. I was extremely fascinated while doing research. I pursue excellence in sociology. My major GPA (upon writing) was at 3.7, and I was in the Dean 's Honors List. My interest, personality, and thirst for learning got me excited during the research, I wish my passion about research can be imply in such a promising and interesting
