Sociological Imagination is a mode of thought that allows an individual to look from a different standpoint other than his or her own personal understanding about a particular subject. Instead, one takes a step back to gain a broader look about a particular scenario or point of view to gain understanding about that subject in a more comprehensive way, encompassing other perspectives within society as a whole. Essentially, we consider other perspectives outside of our own culture or social setting in order to gain a better understanding about a particular issue, point of view, or situation. An example of social imagination could be marriage; most people in the United States marry someone of their own choosing, out of love or other motivations of their own. In other cultures, such as India, arranged marriage is predominant which means the parents are involved in selecting a spouse for an individual.
