Parents ' socialization goals refers to parents ' beliefs about the qualities and skills that their children should develop in the process of growing up. According to the ecocultural theory, socialization goals are the beginning level of parenting strategies (criti - PI). Multiple studies have shown parental socialization goals and their conceptions of good parenting become clear around the same time (criti - PI). Parents ' perceptions actually motivate and guild their parenting behaviors. Cultural priorities are inseparably associated with parenting strategies. Parents who have different cultural background may emphasize different values have been widely documented.

Parents with immigrant background may go through a complex process of acculturation. As a result, they endorse a mixed belief system which includes both individualistic socialization goals and collectivistic socialization goals. To determine how parenting and parents’ socialization goals may shaped by migration experiences, Graf and his colleagues (2014) recruited 40 German parents, 40 Mongolian parents who lived in Germany and 40 Mongolian parents who lived in Mongolia. German parents who participated in this study were older and had more children than other groups. By asking parents to complete online questionnaires, both parenting behavior and parents’ socialization goals were assessed at the same time. The results confirmed the expected cultural differences of the German group and the Mongolian group as related to different cultural emphases on independent and interdependent values. However, when faced socialization goals which are highly valued in interdependent cultures, compare to Mongolian parents who lived in native country, Mongolian parents who lived in Germany rated these socialization goals significantly lower. Growing up, two group of people, parents, and grandparents, took the time and the energy to raise me. Both of them had different approaches when raising me. These approaches were different parenting styles. According to Baumrind, parenting style was the “[capturing] normal variations in parents’ attempts to control and socialize their children” (Darling, 1999). To put it simply, parenting style goal was to lecture, influence, and discipline a child. In general, there are four parenting styles with their own specific benefits and disadvantages. The universality versus cultural specificity debate both have aspects that make sense and can be applied to childhood development. On one side, supporters of the argument for the universality of parenting suggest that certain types of parenting styles will produce the same child development outcomes in different cultures. On the other hand, the argument for cultural specificity states that different parenting practices vary from culture to culture, and that culture ultimately determines the outcomes of child development. Each culture has specific styles of parenting that instill values on children particular to that culture. Each individual has characteristics of what their parents taught them, which gives every individual their own personality. Both sides present logical information on the cultural impacts of parenting on child development outcomes.
Parent has changed with the years. Spanking a child was okay in the past, but is frowned upon. Some parents believe in talking through situations. “In any society, parenting beliefs are a reflection of that society 's cultural values and traditions” (Hulei, Zevenbergen, & Jacobs, 2006). Traditions in one culture may not be accepted in another culture. Traditions change with the times; what is accepted today may not be accepted later in the future. Parent is based on three main styles, but past research has included a fourth. This essay will describe four parenting styles and compare them to the parenting styles on the Chinese and European parents.
Parenting styles can shape the outcome of a child future. Since the behavioral genetics has shown that temperament emerges early in life and remain fairly constant through the life span (Pinker, 2004), it is important that a good parenting style is used to ensure that the child develops all the qualities needed for physical, cognitive, and socio-emotional development. Of all the parenting styles, I have selected the authoritative and indulgent styles, which I believe would produce a secure and avoidant attachment respectively. And although these model works well in the United States, researchers have found that in different cultures and society different outcome in parenting styles and attachments are based solely on those country cultural practices.

If you are considered “cool” now could you have come out a nerd if your parents would have used a different parenting style? “Parenting style is one of the primary determinants of your child’s outcome whether he succeeds, achieves, meets the challenges, flounders, gives up, or runs from or fails in handling life.” (6) The purpose of this paper is to describe the outcomes, processes, labor, and techniques of parenting in a psychological point of view. Parenting styles are defined as the “manner in which parents express their beliefs on how to be a good or bad parent.” (4) Each parenting style has its weaknesses and strengths. All parents incorporate love and limit in their style of parenting. There are four different types of parenting styles: authoritarian, permissive, democratic, and uninvolved parents.
Parents and their parenting style play an important role in the development of their child. In fact, many child experts suggest that parenting style can affect a child’s social, cognitive, and psychological development which influence not just their childhood years, but it will also extend throughout their adult life. The parents alone decided how to raise the child, what the cultural norms are, what pressures to put on the child, and how they want to be when they grow up. For example, in China toddles are selected by state run sports schools. The parents of these children can decide to send their one and only child off to these sport training boarding schools, where they undergo years of grueling training. But to these parent this is the best way to raise their child, because they have a slim chance of bringing honor to their family and to China and can have more opportunities for a successful career (Taboo). As the earliest and most durable source of socialization, a child’s parents are the first people with whom he identifies, and they remain the strongest influence in his development. This overwhelming importance of parenting has led developmental psychologists to take an intense interest in parent/child interactions(George and Rajan, 99). A study of the relation between child inhibition and parenting styles(Canada vs. China) has shown that, child inhibition was associated with mothers ' positive attitudes toward the child, including acceptance, lack of punitiveness, and encouragement of achievement among Chinese participants and with punishment and overprotectiveness among Canadian participants. In another study done by Sonia George and Amar Rajan, thirteen variables (factors) were identified as factors of child-rearing, which constituted how parents bring up their children.
