Socialism
Socialism is a type of economic system, a political movement, and a
social theory. Socialism is based on the idea that governments should own and
control a nation's resources rather than individuals.
Socialism was first used to describe opposition to the free enterprise
and market economies. The Industrial Revolution was the cause of many social
problems. Long work hours, low pay, and poor working conditions caused
Americans to first consider socialism. With government involvement in business,
fairer treatment for all was feasible. Most countries today have socialist
parties, many have socialist governments, and others who are in between have
adopted socialist ideas.
Communism and socialism are often associated together. Socialism is a
stage of government usually leading up to communism. Government must first
control businesses if it is to be considered a communist nation. Democratic
socialists believe some government control is necessary to force people to
become good citizens, but too much can lead to not enough freedoms.
Socialism is seen as an efficient form of government. Capitalism, on
the other hand, leads to unemployment, poverty, business cycles, and conflict
between owners. Through socialism a nations wealth can be distributed more
equally. Socialism is therefore based on cooperation rather than competition.

Even though the politics of China are still Communist, its expansion of trade with the west as well as its open markets are capitalist ideals. In “The problem of Poverty” Kuyper has the view that we all need God in our lives. We cannot survive on our own. In contrast, in “The Communist Manifesto” Marx believes that socialism is the fix for our problem. He thinks that we should all have equal authority and power of our own lives. Throughout this paper we are going to analyze the solutions that Kuyper and Marx suggest to fix our society. separately and then see where they agree and disagree. In contrast, socialism is a system that advocates the control of production and distribution, of capital, and land. Socialism is a social and economic system where the means of productions are shared indivisibly throughout the community or enterprise rather than in the names of a few individuals. Or more simply put Socialists believe that the Chief Executives of a corporation are not the ones who deserve the big pay check. They believe that the working men and women deserve more money because they are they ones out in the field doing the work. The main goal of socialism is to more evenly distribute the wealth. They care more about having more people living comfortably than just a few individuals getting wealthy. Socialist ideas in todays politics are what they believe will make it easier for Americans to live in America.
If one looks at liberty and individual freedom, it is evident that command economies tend to oppress their citizens. Therefore, socialism, which allows for basic needs to be met and personal freedoms to be upheld, is the best economic system for all of a country’s citizens. Market economies, as a whole, inherently and inevitably lead to poverty and a large class disparity. In a capitalist society, the ones who supply labor, the ones who work the hardest, are the ones who are paid the least. One of the first and major differences between a Communist and Democratic government is their contrary economic systems. In a communist government, the community owns the major resources and means of production. The goal of such a system is to prevent any one person or group of people from becoming radically rich, while others are extremely poor. The system attempts to eliminate lower class by balancing the wealth between rich and poor, therefore giving everyone equal pay and ownership. Unfortunately, this results in an increased lower class. However, in a Democracy, free enterprising is permitted, and smiled upon. ? Here, free enterprising helps the economy to flourish. People can organize their own businesses and receive their own profits if it succeeds, or debts if it fails. In this system, the harder a person works, the more money they receive, allowing them to ‘make ends meet.’ The downside to democracy is that people can get a high paying job through education, but may work just as hard at a lower paying job and receive less money. As Winston Churchill once said, "The inherent vice of capitalism is the unequal sharing of blessings; the inherent virtue of socialism is the equal sharing of miseries." Generally, Democracy’s seem be more successful economically.

Robert Heilbroner is a famous American economist who creatively discusses the system of capitalism in Twenty First Century Capitalism. He reveals the abstruse capitalism system and its role in society. Heilbroner begins by comparing traditional society with modern capitalist society and differentiate capital with wealth, which facilitate the reader to understand the basic definition of capitalism. He then illustrates the most crucial aspect of capitalism, that is, the two realms of capitalism. According to Heilbroner, the two realms of capitalism are state and economy or government and business.
