“Choose a job you love, and you will never have to work a day in your life” is a philosophy many strive to follow. This quote from Confucius is something we always heard growing up, especially in high school. In high school is when every one says that you need to decide what your life goals and aspirations should be. If you asked me what I wanted to be my freshman year I said a pediatric nurse. My sophomore year I said an accountant. My junior year I decided I wanted to be a teacher. Then my senior year I decided that all I really wanted to be able to do was help people. I want to help everyone that I possibly can and I feel that I would be good at it not only because of my life experiences but also because of some of my characteristics that I feel I have. Im caring, empathetic, patient, and kind, all of which are things a social worker needs to be. I can be empathetic which is necessary when dealing with people in tough situations. I can be patient with people who need more help realizing and coming to terms with their problems. I can be kind to all no matter of race or ethnicity. Ive also worked with a wide range of people which can better help me be a social worker. Ive worked with babies and little kids at a daycare, I've worked with elementary aged kids during an after school program, I’ve also worked with special needs children, and with all of these things I have worked with lots of adults and have had to have lots of conversations with these adults about there kids which I will have to do a lot as a social worker if I decide to work with families or children which is what I am leaning …show more content…

I love children so what better way to volunteer my time than helping with children. I did many things and worked with many ages from infant to school age. Being a daycare provider for a child leaves a huge impact on that child's life. I never realized just how much time a child spent at daycare until I worked at one. As a daycare provider you spend more time with the kids than the parents do it creates a very special bond. Some kids were dropped off at six o’clock in the morning and were not picked up until six o’clock at night, that is most of the child’s day. I loved being able to provide care to those children and leaving such a huge impact on their lives. I loved seeing the looks on the kids faces when the parents came to get them and they were thrilled to go home. What I did not like is when the kids cried and did not want to go home. Seeing the children act like this made me wonder why they hated going home and if something was wrong with their home life. Obviously being a social work major these are things that I think about. This just reinforced that I wanted to be a social worker and work with children and
