Texting, messaging, and online social networking allows children to become more connected and supportive of their friends. The Pew Research Center found that half of Americans teenagers defined in the study as ages 12-17 send 50 or more text messages a day and 1/3 send more than 100 a day. The Center’s internet and American life project says “2/3 of teenager’s text their friends more than calling them.” Based on this, Kaiser family foundation reported that “Americans between ages 8-18 spend on 7.5 hours a day using some sort of electronics device, from smart phones to mp3 players to computer.” Therefore, social network had impacted people’s lives in many great ways. Social networking has been helpful for friends and family because it improves social interaction, it helps people build a stronger relationship with each other, and it helps relieve stress First of all, social networking can be very helpful because it helps relieve stress. Dr. Jim Taylor says that “social media can provide children with social support which can act as a buffer against stress.” This proves that social networking helps distract you from all the stress you have and it can also help reduce your stress in order for you to have fewer worries. Dr. Jim Taylor also says that “technology may act as a distraction and a means of distancing children from the stressors, providing a respite from the stress and giving them the time and perspective to deal with stress more effectively.” Whenever you’re in a bad mood, social media will help get your mind off of all the stress and lets you focus on something more entertaining. Social network also help you become attached to old family members who you haven’t contact in forever. This goes out for friends as well. Social network also help me decrease my stress. Whenever I’m in a bad mood, it helps get my mind off from all my problems and let my mind focus on something more entertaining. This helped me think about positive things instead of negative things. Also, when you’re in a bad mood, social network lets you express your feelings or talk about your problems with your friends so that they can help solve your problems. This definitely can cause you less stress and make yourself feel better about yourself once your problems have been solved. Therefore, I would recommend teenagers to use social network which can change your life or even have a huge impact on you in many great ways.
People spend more time staring at their phone than they do at each other. ANALYSIS Chris Morris’s “Is technology killing the human touch?” The purpose of this article is to inform that people spend more time on social networks than with family and friends. The author gives an example of how technology changes our behavior “that can impact communication, relationships and our day-to-day interactions with others” (Morris).
People’s lives are influenced by the lack of communicating. For example, in Hamilton Spectator’s article Wired For the Future, the writer explains the negative effects caused by the lack of communicating by saying, “[i]f teens stop communicating with their friends and others face to face, they will lose the ability to navigate complex social situations and that could be devastating for them when they are faced with college and job interviews....” (Hamilton Spectator 2). In other words, that when people keep forgetting how to communicate by overly using messaging systems, it could lead to negative problems in their lives: interviews or meeting with delegates. Those are important to people’s lives, because when children are independent and working in their jobs, they have to socialize with others. Communicating is unavoidable in social life, because people still communicate even though texting and messaging are taking enormous space in our world. In addition, People text too much without talking and communicating face to face. For instance, in Jessica Mazzola’s article Nighttime Texting, she showed the surveyed data of texting by saying, “...American teens send and receive an average of 1,500 texts per month” (Mazzola 1). By all means, texting is rooted deeply in people’s lives and replaced where real conversations should be. As the article mentioned, 1,500 texts per month should be affecting people’s lives directly. Communicating face-to-face and real conversations are certainly reduced dramatically as the texting increases. Therefore, people get influenced by the erosion of
Today in the Twenty-First century we have surpassed many technological advancements and excelled far past what we would have ever thought. One of our greatest technological advancements is the thing we hold in our hands everyday, our cell phones. Sometimes we don't realize just how much our phones can distract us from our lives. As a generation glued to our phones us teenagers send an average of 3,339 texts per month. In Randy Cohen's essay, “When texting is wrong” he states how we are overcome by texting and how it damages our social and personal lives.
There are numerous studies on the impact of advancing technology on adolescents, usually leading to the conclusion that social media networks often take part in creating the teen to isolate themselves from anything other than the internet. Social media however, does allow anyone to connect to the people living on the other side of the world. It is a way to keep in touch with old friends, and meet new people no matter where they live. Social media is often used to keep up with the latest news and often informs users of what is going on before the news channels catch it. It is obvious that social media has various positive uses. While these points are important, the fact that the younger generation spends most of their time with their heads down looking at a screen rather than engaged in conversation takes precedence. An article by Morgan Hampton states that,“children and teens spend 75% of their waking lives with their eyes fixed on a screen.” Social media connects people through a screen, but cannot excuse the fact that people are being disconnected from what is right in front of
“Kids are more isolated online than when they’re interacting in real life situations, which can lead to anxiety and depression.” Bartels agrees. Social media has been around for decades, and has been affecting kids for many ages. Facebook, Snapchat, Instagram, and more are different social media sites that demoralizing people relationships with family members. 92 percent of people check social media daily, and half never post anything. Social media does have a negative influence on middle school students, because it causes anxiety and depression, low self-esteem, and can lead to cyberbullying.
Have you ever been on a website that gave you false information? This is not improving our lives at all or making us smarter because we believe the information is true until someone tells us it’s not. Then you have to forget what you been thinking the whole time and relearn it all over. This is why I believe that electronic and online access doesn’t improve our lives. Social networking usually can lead to anxiety, low self-confidence, and loneliness in teens according to page 230 in the textbook.
Tweets, texts, and the virtual world are beginning to engulf human society one message at a time. For the past ten years, the estimated phone usage per day has become three to four hours. Those precious hours add up quickly, resulting in a total of one hundred and twelve hours per month spent staring at an animated screen. Children, teens, and even adults are beginning to use their cell phones more and more, and are putting themselves at a greater risk of developing social awkwardness, little persistence, and becoming known as digital natives; all these traits driven within your hand held partner.
In Austin McCann's Impact of Social Media on Teens articles he raises that "social networking is turning out to be more than a piece of their reality, its turning into their reality." Teens grumble about always being pushed with homework, however perhaps homework isn't the fundamental wellspring of the anxiety. Ordinary Health magazine expresses that, on insights, a young person who invests more energy open air is for the most part a more content and healthier child. Be that as it may, since 2000, the time adolescents spend outside has diminished altogether bringing on more despondency and heftiness. Not just does it influence wellbeing, social networking denies folks from having an intensive discussion with their youngsters without them checking their telephone. Despite the fact that the constructive outcome of having an online networking profile is to correspond with companions/family, they don't even have the respectability to lift their head and take part in a discussion. Appreciating the easily overlooked details around them turns into a troublesome errand to the normal adolescent when they're excessively caught up with tweeting about it. The repudiating impacts of it goes to demonstrate that social networking is not all it is talked up to
It allows us to meet new people and form new connections with like-minded people. Social media is a great platform for sharing and gaining ideas, voicing opinions and finding new hobbies. Twitter is a great example because it is a popular platform where people are allowed to reply to each other’s opinions, creating a space where it is easy to start healthy and educative discussions about topics we are passionate about. When we find people who agree with our beliefs and ideas, we feel included and accepted. It can also be used to cultivate meaningful friendships. 62% of teenagers say they have shared their social media username with a new friend in order to stay in touch with them. Cell phones have crept into an owner’s possession at all times. “The mobile phone has become a part of us: our best friend who will save all our secrets, pleasures and sorrows” ("Exploring"). Teens have developed the need to know the latest news on social media every minute of every day; they do not want to miss any little detail. Since the beginning of smart phones, high school students have felt the need to have their media open on their smart phone in front of them so they do not feel empty. Once someone has become attached or addicted to something, it is hard to change their habits. Cell phones have changed people socially, especially with the availability to social media with electronics.
The use of social networking sites is rising at great rates. According to a report conducted by the Pew Internet & American Life Project in 2012, ninety-five percent of individuals aged 12-17 use the internet; and eighty-one percent of those use social network sites (Pew Interest). Although it is known that social media can have a useful impact on lives, often times people forget that with a positive comes a negative. The continual use of social network sites will impact teen lives more negatively than positively because they can cause huge distractions from valuable and critical pursuits like education; they can also cause mental health issues and a reduction in communication skills.

When teenagers, especially females, see these unrealistic expectations and understand that it is unreasonable to achieve these so called desirable factors they put an immense amount of pressure on themselves as they feel that they aren 't good enough which causes anxiety and depression (Sternberg Clinic, 2015). Another major negative impact that social media can have on an young individual 's mental health when used excessively is impacting the quality of students school work and overall performance.
