Social Media Reflection

Social media is something that has become quite prevalent in the lives of almost all. It can portray itself in many different forms. Some of the most common are Facebook and Instagram. Both are programs that were created to enrich the lives of the users, and to further connect them with the world around them. Sadly, this is not always the case of what role they play in the life of the everyday person. In my personal life, I have suffered directly from the harsh effects that social media can play. This is not just based from my personal opinion. There is a multitude of information and studies that assist in proving that the more a user access Facebook the more stress and worry they suffer with. The University of Michigan conducted a study to analyze the well being of a set of people in accordance to how often they accessed their social media outlets. They tested this by sending out five text messages per day. They would see how much face to face interaction they had experienced verses how much social media. Many years ago it was the newest and greatest thing. It was made to help connect my long distance family, and made them seem not so far away. With the click of a button we could access what they were doing. It made communication less important when you could look at pictures and easily see what they were doing in their day to day lives. While this seemed like a positive outcome to this new and exciting social media the results it was really causing would be a large downfall for my family. Due to no longer needing to communicate interpersonally to receive information my family experienced a decline in overall communication.
