1- I have not been deployed or know someone that have been in that situation, but I think that AJ’s feelings may be common among deployed soldiers. This may be due to many reasons. One of this may be that when people are in such dangerous situations, strong bonds are created between them. They have to be able to trust their life to other fellow soldiers, like AJ said in the play, soldiers watch each other’s backs and that is why that bond is so strong. As a result of this when a soldier is deployed they may feel like they are abandoning their friends or quitting. They may have a hard time accepting, like AJ, the idea that while they are sitting in their couch watching TV, some of their friends are been killed in a war. On the soldiers they have to learn how to alternate between being a “killing machine” while they have to be husbands and parents. Like they said in the post-performance Q & A, sometimes is hard for the soldiers to focus on the mission when they just talk thru skype with a son about a football game or sang happy birthday to a daughter. On the same page, the relatives of the soldiers have also been affected by modern social media. They can get in touch more often with their loved soldier, but on the negative side, is also easier to get very bad news. They must fell sometimes like they are also in the battlefield, worry all the time for the wellbeing of their loved one. Like they explained, this a new phenomenon that no other soldier in no other war had experienced, so judging if is positive or not is hard to do. In my opinion there are more positive than negatives about this topic, because on the soldiers’ side, seeing your relatives can remind you sometimes what is the reason that you are fighting for, and on the relatives’ side even if the news are bad, to me knowing beats not knowing every day of my
