Ann Smarty author of "Social Media and Society: The Good, The Bad, and The Ugly" says, "15 years ago people were actually waiting to hear from each other because even email wasn't that common." Social media has changed our lives as we know it and some people are arguing whether social media has changed our lives towards good things or if it has changed our lives towards bad things. Social media needs to be changed. People pay more attention to their phones then they do to the people around them, it has weakened face to face communication, there is hardly any productivity on social media, and there is no use of body language or facial expressions on social media.
First, social media weakens face to face communication. A lot of times we can get distracted and find ourselves wasting time looking and mind-numbing YouTube videos and lots of others things. Social media is also the cause of procrastination. Instead of doing work that we don't want to do we will check our social media status, look up videos on YouTube, or even browse everyone else's posts and wish that we were doing what they were doing. In addition to that Ann Smart also says, "Admit it you check your profiles during work or find yourselves wandering YouTube." It is very easy to get distracted by social media and get caught up in our social media feed. We need to set goals for ourselves and make it so we don't check our social media status every five minutes or we don't check our favorite YouTubers post every time we get the
