In fact, social networking involves sharing connections between ideas and people, whereas HIPPA and FERPA regulations protect an individual’s privacy through strict protocols about how personel information can be used and by whom.

One risk of using social media is posting unprofessional content that can reflect negatively on students, associated institutions and the nursing profesion in general. The way in which people choose to present themselves publicly in an online environment is an sign of their character and by making public posts, they have provided an open invitation for anyone to view the posted information for any purpose.

Faculty Implications
