Today’s society revolves around social media and impacts each person in a different way. The occurrence of giving and receiving “likes” and the desire of today’s teens to increase views, shares, comments, and likes are not only helping improve someone’s profile, but also of the brands that they like. As companies observe the data collected, the social media marketers work together to carefully turn “likes” into profit for the brand. People have no idea what the value of liking something is. The more teens that utilize social media, the more money companies are likely to make.

On social media, the things that people like are helping people and companies become more widely known, and in turn, improve the company’s sales. People assume if they do not have followers or likes, they are not noticed as much. Teenagers are mainly concerned with being “liked” by everyone. The more followers that a teen has, the more money a company is making. However, they do not understand how beneficial they are to the companies. To them, the likes they receive are instant gratification, and prove their worth; but for companies, if more people view someone’s photo, and the photo advertises an Alex and Ani bracelet, then the viewer is inspired to purchase t their own bracelet to maintain the same level of popularity as the person in the photo. Then again, it makes sense that girls get more likes because they expose themselves more to social media. Girls tend to post more, therefore are noticed more often, so they tend to gain more followers. Because most females are such avid social media users, they tend to receive more likes because they care more about what they post. On the other hand, guys do not post as frequently, and therefore fly under the radar on most social media platforms, receiving a significantly lower number of likes. Nonetheless, girls are also the foundation of where most likes are generated from. Statistically speaking, girls tend to like a lot more photos or posts than guys do. Due to the large population of females that utilize social media, it makes complete sense why the updates that are posted are through the roof with the number of likes that they receive; it makes sense as to why girls get more likes than guys.
