April 3rd 1973, the date that the first mobile cellphone call was made. A time that all we had to worry about was outgoing and incoming calls. No text messages, email notifications, or social media alerts to worry about. In today’s society, social media causes numerous distractions. Although, there are good things that come from social media, in most scenarios the bad outweighs the good. Unfortunately through this link, you can see the pain many teens have gone through and the sadness many have felt. Some of which feels unbearable enough to take their own life and to me that is something absolutely no one should feel. This goes back to the saying, “if you don’t have something nice to say, don’t say anything at all” and those are truly words to live by. This quote from Keshanna Browder is yet another example of a negative of social media, “From what I’ve heard social media has ended a lot of friendships and caused people to lose important people in their life. I’ve also witnessed that because I’ve been in many situations like that.” Do not hurt others! You never know what someone may be going through or have gone through in their life and no one deserves to be bullied. Among the many reasons I am against social media my next reason is it is such a distraction in every day life. We spend so much time absorbed in it we forget to enjoy life.
