Throughout history, gender and sexuality issues have been a constant in the social problems that we face in society. With the many inequalities that plagued the gender gap, one would expect the new generations to want to change any issues that arise today. Looking at sexuality, and how the general population views anyone who isn’t straight, it can be seen that this is not the situation. Issues between the LGBT+ (lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender) community and the straight/cis community have only gotten worse as the years go on. Many people in today’s society seem to either think that there are no issues, or that old laws and practices are correct. Often times, this is incorrect. In more and more states, same-sex marriages are becoming legal, and benefits are being given to the married couple, as they should be. However, there are still the states that are delayed in their rights, but are slowly making progress. This law would speed along the inevitability of equality. This has been a long time coming, but even though many fear that by giving the LGBT+ community the right to marry who they please, that the end result would somehow ruin the country, in reality, most people would not be affected in the slightest. These people believe that if a gay couple is married, then people will try to marry their cousin, (which surprisingly, is actually already legal in about 25 states), or even a beloved pet or farm animal. They take these ideas to the extreme to try to scare away the ideas of equality from those who don’t know much about the issues, and at the same time, try to dehumanize the LGBTQA+ community. This is similar to when blacks and women fought for their right to vote. They believed that if these other groups were allowed to vote, then the country would spiral into chaos, when in reality, it only helped make the country stronger and more united in its
