Social Enterprises deliver some form of benefits or social impacts to the community. It makes profit to reinvest the Enterprise own business such that achieve the social objective effectively rather than maximizing profit. Hong Kong as a commercial center, this issue is a highly contentious one because there are so many challenges to operating Social Enterprise. Government, Non-Government Organization (NGO), universities and business communities are different parties to form a social enterprise model. Nowadays, most of Social Enterprises are establishing in mature market and only small parts of them do not have any competitor. 81% of small enterprises employ less than 10 full time Employees and around 92% of Social Enterprise are run by NGOs, which supervise by social workers. The purpose of Social Enterprise is mainly providing workfare to disadvantaged group. They provide jobs to the disadvantaged group earn income with dignity. People with disadvantage can rebuild their self-confidence by learning new working skills and knowledge. This also gives the chance for them to widen their social network. Workfare advocate independence to disadvantage group and As a result, this is an effective way to facilitate re-integration of the society. Apart from providing help to disadvantaged groups, Social Enterprises also helps raise the social capital of Hong Kong and reduce the expenditure of society welfare. Social Enterprises provide workplace for disadvantaged people and this advocate inclusive culture and better understanding among different background people in Hong Kong. Ginkgo House is the one of the few social enterprise in Hong Kong can loan from banks. Banks always have much reservation for the business of social enterprises. It is because the start-up capital of most of social enterprises comes from government funding and the actual financial condition could not be fully reflected. Moreover, the break-even accounts of social enterprises may not be displayed the hidden costs and expenditure items. Thus, the past business performance is the most important proof for sustainability of the business. It provides the consolidating financial support and this will not be a matter anymore if further loans from banks in the future.
