It's the year 2004. I'm only 7 years old, dressed in my Landon Donovan jersey, matching athletic shorts, and soccer cleats. I'm in my front yard running and kicking a soccer ball around with my friends. We're laughing and running around without a single care in the world. All of us patiently awaiting the start of the biggest sporting spectacle on Earth, the World Cup. An international soccer tournament that pits nations against each other in a game of physical skill and wits. An event that draws in billions of viewers every four years. For a young fan of the game like myself, euphoria washes over me when I realize it's a World Cup year.
However, despite soccer being the most popular sport worldwide, being a fan in the United States isn't always glamorous. In the United States, the NFL, NBA, and MLB reign supreme and dominate the sports market. Here, people perceive soccer players as "diving wimps" who just "flop" and complain to the referee every time they face a tough break. In this aspect of the game, I can unfortunately see where they're coming from. Growing up a football and soccer fan, I can understand how those who watch the NFL, where tackling and hitting happen every minute, can foresee soccer as weak. Nevertheless, I believe soccer has an immeasurable beauty and intrigue that everyone can appreciate.

The team's following achieved more than I ever thought possible in such a short period of time. In just two years the team went from not existing to seemingly being an overnight sensation. The team started playing college schools for practice, but quickly shot through the ranks and started taking down some of the MLS's best teams. I was elated. I was with them every step of the way, through thick and thin. My favorite activity to do on a weeknight would be showing up to a windy spring game and cheer for FCC. It was even better because I had roaring friends and fans alongside me each and every
Like many other individuals, Franklin Foer titles himself to be a soccer expert and enthusiast. Moreover, he is also acclaimed for his work in the field of globalization. In his book, he uses the game of soccer as his universal device. Soccer has been around for a very long time. Many people around the world play soccer. An abundance of people love soccer, but just as many people hate soccer; they prefer hockey, baseball, or football. Football is just an Americanized version of soccer. Here are three interesting things about soccer.
Soccer is still the world?s most beloved sport, and will continue to be the number one sport for generations to come. However, North America is never bound to join this band wagon because we simply find the sport dull. The fake injuries, scoreless games, and long game lengths disappoint the majority of North America, whom would much rather watch other exciting sports. Because of lacking a long-time tradition, excitement during matches, and good opportunities for big time television networks to broadcast the games, the real football fails to succeed as the superior sport in North America. Paying $250 million dollars to David Beckham won?t do any good in promoting soccer across North America. ?Football? will continue to be less than a second thought, so long as we have these other terrific sports at hand.
Franklin Foer the author of How Soccer Explains the World: An Unlikely Theory of Globalization is an important contributor of the small topic of the how soccer is related to the world. Foer from the New Republic who writes from time to time in the well known newspaper of the New York Times and the Wall Street Journal had traveled around the world especially the continent of Europe, Asia, North and South America. Going from the topic of why the Islam religion, Islamic law, and religious paramilitary militia prohibits the passionate, die-hard Islamic women fans; from attending and/or watching soccer games and then partying hard like the men after the game if their country or favorite club wins. To the topic of how America relates to soccer when the middle class accepted this sport because of the little violence that they thought the sport contained and to how some Americans support writers such as Tom Weir from USA Today’s “that hating soccer is more American than apple pie, driving a pickup, or spending Saturday afternoons channel surfing with the remote control” (Foer 240). The majority of Americans that support this quote are the lower class, liberals, majority of sports reporters, and narrow minded Americans. These topics and/or chapters really show how soccer is creating more globalization around the world especially with Islamic women getting rid of their traditions and trying new things such as showing their passion for soccer. In addition, America is trying to pass its apple pie and watching American Football on a Sunday to watching beautiful game of soccer. How Soccer Explains the World: An Unlikely Theory of Globalization is really divided into three groups; the first being the rivalries between clubs and human beings, sec...

Soccer is a very easily understood and exciting sport. A soccer game can change in a matter of 30 seconds. When in a football game it can take some time. Soccer is an easily likable sport and it is easily understood. Soccer is more exciting than any other sport as there are no boundaries on what you could do. The only boundary is fouling and that you can’t use your hands.
Soccer is the most popular sport evolved from as far back as the Han dynasty in 200-300 B.C. According to the Complete Book of Soccer, the Chinese played with a wet piece of balled up cloth, trying to kick the cloth through the two bamboo poles. This was the start of the great game of soccer. According to the Complete Book of Soccer, in Europe, soccer did not start till the later 14th century. It is said to be a game of kicking rubber balls in the streets of the British Isles for bragging rights. This then lead to teams building up against each other for bragging rights in England. Unfortunately for the United States, the game did not appear till the 1900th century. “The American Soccer Association was organized in New...
