Snapchat’s Spectacles When you think of social media, there are four companies that first come in mind: Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, and Snapchat. Facebook is currently the dominant social media platform in the world averaging over 1.7 billion active users each day (Facebook, 2016) , however, the new social media platform snapchat is the fastest growing social media network with more than 100 million daily active users as of May 2015. Snapchat is an app that allows users to share photos and videos to their friends which is similar to instagram, However, what's proprietary about their app is that the photos and videos are only accessible by others for only a certain amount of time that is specified by the user. The article that i have read is about snapchat's new product called Spectacles. The article discusses snapchat new product’s ability to succeed in the wearable industry compared to google’s own version of the camera wearable that did not go successful and ended up being discontinued. Google’s wearable called google glass were dorky looking , did not have any lenses, and had a price tag of $1500. What differentiates google’s product from snapchat is that snapchat’s spectacles have a very attractive design that is composed of many colors and are very unique. They are similar to normal sunglasses but they have 2 embedded cameras on them. Also their price is only $130 compared to the insane price tag of google’s $1500 wearable.
