Technology Changing our Ethical Behavior
While times are changing and so are the technologies that come with the changing times. While there are positive outcome that comes with new and improved technologies there are also negative consequences that comes with these new and improved technologies. We as a society have to decipher whether the ethical behavior from these new and improved technologies are worth having.
Smartphones are devices that combined telephony and computing were first conceptualized in 1973, and were offered for sale beginning in 1993. The term "smartphone" first appeared in 1997, when Ericsson described its GS 88 "Penelope" concept as a Smart Phone. (Wikipedia). Every single day something new is happening somewhere, and thus the dynamic nature of technology continues to progress. Especially smartphones have become almost a symbol of modern identity. One of the major impacts of smartphones on the society has been a great increase in social networking. The likes of Facebook, Google Plus and Twitter, all were ready with their diverse, beautiful and powerful applications for smartphone access. Facebook and MySpace existed before the release of first true smartphones, but the gist of social networking could only be felt after apps made it possible for users to update their statuses, broadcast their words, share local news and events and use those shared by others from the portability of a mobile system. Thus, the app-diversity of these tools has turned them invaluable. Another greatly positive impact of the smartphones is that, these devices have turned many people into avid readers. Recent trends shows that the publicizing the personal life and information in social network websites is increasing and the tendency of considering the virtual online world as real world is increasing very rapidly. Recent medical studies show that addiction of internet is causing personal, professional as well as social problems. (Alerts)
In conclusion even though times are changing and so are the technologies that come with the changing of the times technologies can be a great asset to society but the new technologies can also come with a price. Technologies can be of great use to our society if used for the good of mankind to help better the world, but also the price can be costly to society if put into the wrong hands.
