Mobile phones go back to the year 1942 where it was considered a portable “Handie
Talkie” and could only reach out to one other person from one mile away. During this time a mobile phone was nowhere near being compared to be replaced by a desktop computer. A desktop computer was released around the beginning of 1974 and contained 1K chip of memory.
Both ends (mobile and desktop) have advanced during the years.
A Desktop computer can’t literally make phone calls but it did however, have features like chatting online, sending emails and other social websites where people could communicate with each other like a mobile phone would do. Soon began the trend of video calling. For example; Oovoo and Skype are programs you download to use with your desktop and connect a webcam to communicate with anyone, anywhere and at any time. Not only did communicating improved with desktop users, throughout the years computers upgraded to be more user-friendly and very powerful. Sooner or later around the 1990’s desktops changed from floppy disc to c-ds.
Screen resolutions improved from being a green low-resolution to a yellow VGA AND SVGA, monitors began changing sizes and the storage space increased drastically. With all these improvements many people used desktops Computers for game playing, school work, businesses, documents and many more basic all-purpose and social stuff.
Smartphones were first created during 1992 with the nickname “Simon” and cost $899.00
Smartphones became very popular because of the comfort it gave people to update or check up while being on the go.
