Creating goals are essential to ensure success in college and beyond, through the use of SMART goals, one has the potential to plan goals that one can achieve by a set completion date. Smart goals are specific, measurable, attainable, results-focused, and time bound. Throughout this paper, I will explain the importance and relevance of my goals, as well as the process through which they will successfully be accomplished. The first goal that I present to you is a social goal. My goal is to join a club or activity at UMD that I can enjoy by the end of my first year at UMD. This goal came about when I thought about the hundreds of different clubs at my disposal on campus the following year. This goal is pretty simple but it is one that requires patience, and openness to trying new things. My …show more content…
It will be accomplished by working every weekend over the month of August to make some extra money to purchase the college essentials. My financial goal can be measured by determining whether I saved up enough money to purchase the supplies needed or by determining whether I have purchased the school supplies by the established deadline. In addition to this, my goal also fulfills the achievable category because saving up that amount over 3 weekends is certainly possible. The only challenge would be budgeting to make sure I do not spend the money, I get paid. However, it would not be defeating. This goal is result-oriented because the purpose of accomplishing the goal would be to save my parents the burden of having to pay for my school supplies. Lastly, it is time bound because I need to accomplish this short term goal before August 29th. This deadline presents a sense of urgency because I have less than a two weeks to accomplish it. This goal is necessary in order for me to be prepared for the first week of
As a highschool student we come up with many goals that we want to achieve each year. My three main goals for my junior year are to get good grades and maintain a good G.P.A. to stay active and play sports, and to start looking for colleges to apply for. Usually, it is hard to achieve all your own personal goals, especially if it involves working extra hard or doing other tedious activities.
The final aspect of setting SMART goals is that they must be time bound. Simply, it is necessary to have a deadline for which the goal must be completed. If the deadline is a long way off, set hallmarks along the way. This will contribute to measuring your success and help you to keep moving toward the ultimate goal (KPW, 2010). For example, I only have financial aid for a specific amount of time which means that I must take the time that is needed to pursue my degree because my course has a specific target date as to when everything should be complete.
Being a part of Appalachian State University’s Honors College would be an amazing privilege. According to the university, the Honors College has been providing superior education to intellectually-motivated students for more than thirty five years. Being a part of the Honors College would help me promptly reach the personal, intellectual, and professional goals I set for myself as well as optimize my college experience.
The goals I want to achieve this year is to stay in school and to do my work so I can get enough credits to graduate on time. Another goal I have is to save up money and stay working instead of calling in all the time. I'm gonna try my best to follow all my rules I have for probation and to stay out of jail. I feel I can do all these things if I put my mind to it, I been going to school and work everyday I've had to so far. Something I taught myself is how to Bmx bike and do tricks on them.
Mario Andretti once said, “Desire is the key to motivation, but it's determination and commitment to an unrelenting pursuit of your goal - a commitment to excellence - that will enable you to attain the success you seek.” Andretti’s words are as true today as when he spoke them. Everyday should be a continuous journey to get to your goal. Starting off with the right step is a major component. Therefore, I chose to apply to Stanly Early College High. I believe that I have the ability to work up to Stanly Early College standards. Determination, dedication, and desire are all qualities that I have.
The reasoning behind attending Rowan University is to have completed at least four years of schooling, graduate with a college diploma, and be able to prosper in my chosen career field. In this day in age, without a college degree you are most likely not going to receive an adequate job. Goal Setting allows for people to strive to high expectations and help improve your overall performance. Goal setting is vital because without objectives you in return lead yourself to failure. When tasks are made, we usually attempt everything in our power to master them. By not allowing yourself to set goals, you waste valuable time and tend to take the “easy route” throughout life. Various goals were in mind before attending my first semester. These goals
Despite their benefit, SMART goals are not without their drawbacks which can hinder the obtaining of desired results. One difficulty regarding setting SMART goals is that the words “goals” and “objectives” are often used interchangeably and this can result in major difficulties (MacLeod, 2012, p. 69). Goals are more often general in nature, whereas objectives are tangible targets. This confusion of terms can result in unclear goals which invariably yields weaker results as compared to a clear
Goals give you something to measure yourself against and give you direction. Currently, my main goal is to graduate from East Carolina University with a bachelor’s degree of science in engineering with a concentration in biomedical engineering. My anticipated time to graduation is five years with a GPA of 3.5 or higher. Beyond getting my bachelor’s degree at East Carolina University, I would like to go to medical school and become a doctor focusing on prosthetics. In order to make my goals a reality, I will have to work diligently to remain on track throughout my schooling. Additional goals that I have set for myself are to complete homework assignments by the time they are due, reading assigned material before it is discussed in class, doing well in each of my courses this semester, successfully participating in extracurricular activities, graduating with a bachelor’s degree in engineering, getting a position as an engineer, and becoming a leader within both the engineering community and the general community. A world-class engineering student woul...
A goal of mine is to get accepted in to National Honors Society. I will reach this goal by getting all my work done and studying a lot. Something the board of NHS looks at when you apply is if you have a number of volunteer hours. I hope to get at least 70 before my junior year. In order to get 70, I will use my free time to help teachers or students get jobs done. Another goal would be valedictorian. If I can work hard on every assignment and study for every test to reach at least a 4.0 GPA, I know I will be one of the valedictorians. One last goal would be receiving at least 3 varsity letters from the sports I play. I can get 3 by being a leader on these
My my personal goals are to get a 27 on my ACT, have a above a 2.8 GPA, and get a basketball scholarship to ORU. I need to jump into college with alacrity.I plan on reaching these goals by working hard and really focusing in all of my classes every single day and making sure I make enough time in my week to study for all my tests I take. Even if I have antipathy for a class I still need to be inquisitive and ask questions.
In conclusion, my dream is to become successful in college and benefit from college skills that will help me reach my future goals. However, I may have to be prepared for the obstacles that I might encounter, and learn to overcome them. Much of my success will depend upon my willingness to seek advice from experts and professors. In addition, I will have to learn how to build effective strategies that will help me achieve my dream of becoming successful students
One of the best ways to follow a successful path is to set goals for yourself. They are important to keep yourself on task and to get to a desired point of self fulfillment. The issue can be how to achieve goals in a successful manner. The issue is "Although people may desire or intend to attain some outcome, they are not committed to that as a goal until they are willing to invest affect, cognition, and behavior in attaining it" (Traci Mann, 2013). This is why it is important to have a set path on how to accomplish important goals. I have chosen three goals that I want to accomplish to demonstrate a Process known as SMART, to help accomplish them. There goals are that I want to finally earn a college degree(personal), I want to make it into the honor society while earning my degree(academic), and I want to earn my degree in order to contribute to Autism research(professional). All of these goals range in the amount of time it will take to accomplish them. Some are long term, but I can still use the SMART goal process in order to achieve them. The SMART steps to follow are:
"Goal setting is actually a formal process for personal planning. By setting your goals on a routine basis (at the start of the year, every month, etc.), you propel yourself closer to achieving these goals." (Fowler, 2004) With that thought in mind I have set my first educational goal as a long term goal to earn a Bachelor of Science in Information Technology degree. This will open up my ability to strive for a career in my field of passion of computers. To overcome the issue of time management I have dedicated my self to using my Yahoo calendar and the calendar in Outlook Express more in-depth and more up to date than in the past. I will print out these calendars and post them on my bulletin board in my home office where I can reference and utilize them properly. My second educational goal is to complete every course for the University of Phoenix BSIT requirements with the best possible score for each class. I have the same issue of time management in relation to this goal. For this problem I have decided to create a semester (course) calendar with co-curricular activities so I can concentrate on completing my requirements for each course without being distracted with personal scheduling conflicts. My third and final educational goal is to complete the requirements for earning a Microsoft Certified Systems Engineer (MCSE). This is considered one of my long, long range goals. The only issue related to this goal is that I don't know what is required for this certification. I'm sure with obtaining the requirements from a web source I can overcome this goal with no problem.
I have always wanted to make good grades but I never really set any goals but, then I realized that setting academic goals are way more important than people realize . I then started to set goals like my sophomore year of high school after I did that it really helped me focus on my future and what I wanted for myself. My goals I think pushed me so much more academically they opened my eyes a little bit more. One Goal I set was to graduate High school with a Core 40 diploma, which I did, so that is one goal down and a bunch more to go. My senior year I started applying to college but my main goal was to make into Saint Mary-of-the Woods and when I received my acceptance letter I was ecstatic. So far, I am still trying to figure out my academic goals for college but, I do know for sure that I want to succeed in every single way that I can so I can make a better future for myself. A goal that I made this year is to make the dean’s list every single time, for this I will study so hard for every test, do all of my homework, and ask questions when I have them and maybe even getting a tutor. This challenge will probably be really tough but I believe that I can do it if I put my mind to it, and I tend to be a very determined
It’s Measurable because I will know when it has been accomplished. It’s Attainable because it’s achievable. It’s something that’s not too hard or unreasonable. To pick up the phone and make a phone call to the people who care about you is really easy to do. I know I am able going to be able to accomplish it especially because this is something that I want to do. Building a relationship with my siblings is a top priority for me. This goal is Realistic because it’s rational and sensible. It would be unrealistic for me to say that will talk to my sisters 24/7. That is impossible. I also made this goal Time-Bound because I have a specific time when I plan to complete this goal which is by the end of my freshmen year. This way I know when my goal should be completed and when I get to that date I can analyze if my goal was actually
