The heart: a small thing inside your chest that beats to a rhythm and keeps you alive. But, you probably knew this. You want to keep that little red thing healthy, but you don’t know how to do it. Here’s a tip. Eat. But don’t just get up and grab a bag of potato chips just yet. There are certain foods to include in your diet to help you maintain a happy, healthy heart. Who knew that eating could do more than just keep you from starving?
Oatmeal is a great way to start your day with a heart healthy breakfast. It contains a bunch of soluble fibers that help fight off bad LDL cholesterol. Why is this good you ask? Well, LDL cholesterol can stop the flow of blood in your arteries, which will eventually lead to heart attacks and other heart-related problems. The fibers that oatmeal contains will stick to that bad cholesterol, and become regular waste. Cholesterol won’t know what hit it when you start eating oatmeal.
These snackable juicy little fruits are like a heart-attack stopping pill. Studies by Harvard doctors have shown that 34% of middle-aged women that eat three or more servings of half a cup of berries were less prone to heart attacks. The reason for this is the anthocyanins, which are basically antioxidants in berries that make them different colors, decrease blood pressure. The berries that contain many health benefits include, but are not limited to, strawberries, raspberries, blueberries, blackberries, and cranberries. Add them to your bowl of oatmeal for an even tastier breakfast.
