Recommended: Ernest Shackleton and the Epic Voyage on the Endurance

Being an effective leader can be one of the most difficult jobs in the world. Whether you are new to this task, or have plenty of experience, it can be very frustrating at times. In order to be a successful leader, many characteristics and traits must be used. The three that I find are the most effective in order to be successful are positive attitude, having the ability to manage failure, and being able to focus on the task at hand. To start things off, let's talk about why having a positive attitude is crucial in order to be an exceptional leader. Positive attitude is like the foundation of a house. This characteristic has many benefits towards yourself and your crew members. One of the best benefits is that it helps keeps your team pushing towards your goal. If you start pointing out all of the negative things, than your crew members will feel down on themselves, and start to believe that they will never accomplish their goal. Another key benefit of having a positive attitude is way others around you will become positive as well. Positivity is known to be contagious, so thinking positive around your group will give you positive results. One main example of a leader that demonstrated this characteristic is Sir Ernest Shackleton. On August 1, 1914, Shackleton and his crew departed London on the ship Endurance.
