I have just finished watching the movie "Singing in the Rain" and I would like to give my opinion on the film. Stanley Donen directs this colorful musical/romance that came out in 1952. The run time for "Singing in the Rain" is 103 minutes and "Rotten Tomatoes" gave it a 100%. "Singing in the Rain" takes place in Hollywood, California during the 1920s. Films are starting to make the huge transition from silent movies to sound movies. Don Lockwood and Lina Lamont have rose to stardom together on screen with their silent romance movies, now they must take on a new task, a musical. Only problem is, is that Lina has a terribly annoying voice and can't sing worth anything. Thus, they bring in Don's lover, Kathy Selden, who has a great singing voice
The Wiz is a musical/movie released in 1978 that was an adaptation of the popular film “Wizard of Oz”. It included several very popular stars of the time, which were Diana Ross, Michael Jackson and Nipsey Russell. The movie set place in New York City where the main character, Dorothy, suddenly is swept by a tornado in the middle of a snowstorm. She later then found herself lost in a city she had no clue about and curious as to how she could return home. After meeting 3 other characters during her journey that share similarities, they all embarked on a trip to OZ to fix each of their problems. Throughout the movie characters apply their own soundtrack through singing songs in harmony that compliment the mood of each scene.

Chapter Ten called “It’s More Than Just Rain or Snow” helps bring the specific scene at the end of the The Grapes Of Wrath into a better and deeper understanding. The specific scene from The Grapes Of Wrath occurs at the end of the novel in Chapter 30 where it is shown by a sprinkle of rain beginning to fall and Pa carrying the left arm of Rose Of Sharon and Ma her right. The sky soon becomes black and the rainfall begins to increase as Ma, Pa, Rose of Sharon, Ruthie, Winfield, and Uncle John make there way to somewhere dry. As they walk on Ma examines the farmland and spots a blot of a barn on a tiny hill and they all end up hurrying to the barn with Ma and Pa partly pulling Rose of Sharon
One of its numerous strengths was the costuming and set. This musical would not have been the same had these elements not come together to transport the viewer. In addition to the costuming and the set, the actors were very well cast. Each actor was in a role that fit them and they portrayed their characters very well. For example, the man who played Glen really seemed like a greedy Wall Street worker. The choreography was also well done. It fit true to the style of dance in the 1980s and added to the immersion experience. The only thing that could have made this experience better would be to add more music. This may just be a personal preference, but when I see a musical I like for the music to be central like it is in Hamilton or Les Miserables. This movie stars Tom Cruise, who plays as the character Charlie Babbit, and Dustin Hoffman, who plays as the character Raymond. In the beginning of the movie, one would have never thought that Charlie Babbitt had a brother. Charlie Babbitt owned his own automobile company. He appeared successful and very self-centered. Charlie Babbit’s automobile company is in trouble. He is in serious debt.

It is a classic masterpiece that set the standards that musical films of today will be judged by. It is a classic performance by the great Gene Kelly and displays outstanding performances by Debbie Reynolds and Donald O'Connor. As well as starring in this brilliant movie, Gene Kelly teams up with Stanley Donen to make their mark in film history.
The movie begins with self-centered, materialistic Charlie Babbitt (Tom Cruise), learning the death of his father. To settle his dad’s estate, he and his business partner/girlfriend, Susanna (Valeria Golino) travel to his home town Cincinnati. While he was hoping to inherit all of his dad’s estate, all he got was a car and a collection of rosebushes that he simply has no use for. The remaining $3 million fortune was put into a trust for an unnamed beneficiary. Charlie demands to know the identity of the beneficiary and finds out that it is a mental hospital where his long-lost autistic brother, Raymond (Dustin Hoffman) resides with a caretaker, Dr. Bruner (Gerald R. Molen).

I have to disagree with both these reviews. I believed that the story was brilliantly written and the cinematography was beautiful. This movie touched me and had me in tears which believe me is hard to do. I do agree with the New York Times and New Yorker that it was a little dragged out and that Kiera Knightly acting was over rated. Other than that I would defiantly recommend this movie.

This film definetly deserves five out of five stars, as the of plot of this film which is based on a true story is excellent, the actors behind the characters are marvelous, and the inclusion of appropriate music and sound effects brilliantly enhance the emotion and mood of the story.
