Culture is everything that we speak and do (O'Neil, 2006). People are not born with cultures, cultures are learned (Sagepub, N.A). Cultural diversity is where many people from different cultures or ethnic groups are in a society (racismnoway, N.A). Cultural diversity is a result of globalisation (UNEP & UNESCO, 2002).
The modern world with cultures gives insight of how cultural diversity helps to integrate a nation. Especially, how different human thoughts that contain individual cultures become a need for community’s survival and blooming purposes (Hedaya, 2013). It has been said that culture is a component resulting in conflict (LeBaron, 2003). It is dependent on the degree of cultural diversity among the parties involved (Leeds, N.A). In some studies, it is argued that culture is the main cause of conflict that is going to happen in the future, and cultural differences are not easily resolved and compromised especially matters relating to religion. Take Singapore as an example. Their cultural diversity is not strong as they have a higher percentage of Chinese as compared to Malay and Indians. Some even say that Singapore is not a multi-cultural country. (Nair, 2012). Singaporeans from different cultures can work together (Snodgrass, 2013). Students are taught from young the different cultures (MOE, 2014). However, they are still racist among people from a different culture (Fenn, 2014) (M, 2014). Racist is an element of divisive (Gates, 2004). Furthermore, conflicts and riots can still happen. For example, the recent Little India Riot. It is due to a Chinese Singaporean who accidentally killed an Indian person by bus. For example, the dominance of Islamic State of Iraq and al-Sham (ISIS) through Middle East which displayed violence and fears to people. It has divided the states of Syria and Iraq and scare away the European colonialists (Armstrong, 2014). ISIS is a religious group that meticulously choose their own beliefs (Wood, 2015). This is known as a social construction where a group of people agreeing to the same set of beliefs (International Encyclopedia of the Social Sciences, 2008).
