Simulcasting live music: NPR - Marijuana Deathsquads & PBS Audra McDonald When the Internet was created who knew that you would be able to access anything at anytime with just the click of a mouse. Especially when it comes to hearing music from your favorite artist. Before YouTube and all the other video streaming sites you would have to order a concert via paper view. Even now that technology is so advance you can watch a live performance from anywhere in your home on a computer thru what is called Simulcasting. Many companies have jumped on board with live streaming. In this this essay I give a brief overview of two companies who are based around simulcasting; NPR and PBS. I will also compare their simulcasting performances from Marijuana Deathsquad and Audra McDonald. NPR & PBS Live video simulcast of musical performances alters the experience of virtual audiences by putting the view in a front row seat point of view. They are trying to create the same feeling you would get if you were at the concert for the viewer. According to cpb.org the difference between PBS and NPR is that NPR isn’t televised. PBS provides programming to “348 public television stations across the country”. Both are private and nonprofit organizations funded by member stations. PBS stands for public broadcasting service. One of the ways their channel is different from others is its way of having very few commercials and not sticking to the same broadcast schedule. Any program can be put on PBS as long as the channel gets funded for its licensing fees.
