Abraham Lincoln, and Martin Luther king Jr. both have many similarities and differences. Abraham Lincoln had many great accomplishments (Abraham Lincoln 2014). Martin Luther King also, did as well (Foundation 2014). Abraham Lincoln had quite the working life as a child, before he became president (Website ). However, Martin Luther King’s childhood was very different from Lincoln’s (book). However, these men became some of the greatest leaders this country has ever had.
Abraham Lincoln accomplished many of his goals. He served as a captain for the “Little Black Hawk War”, and also, used force to defend the federal law and Union. Abraham issued the Emancipation Proclamation that declared, “forever free those slaves within the confederacy.” Abraham

had many great accomplishments in his life as well. In 1954, Marin became a pastor of the Dexter Avenue Baptist Church in Montgomery, Alabama. King by the time, was a member of the Executive Committee of the National Association for the advancement of the colored people, which was the leading organization of it’s kind in the nation. By then, early in December 1955, Martin accepted the leadership of the first, great negro nonviolent demonstration of contemporary times in the U.S. King even went to the U.S boycott, described by Gunnar Jahn in his presentation speech in honor of the laureate. The boycott lasted 382 days (Foundation 2014).
Martin Luther King and Abraham Lincoln have many similarities. They both would never give up on hope, they would keep trying to go in the right direction, even if may not have had a chance. They would both, strive for greatness. Lincoln and King, were excellent leaders, they were always a beacon of light for their followers. Abraham, and Martin however, were both assassinated, and died from firearms. The similarity between Susan B. Anthony speech and Martin Luther King Juniors “I Have a Dream” speech is that they are fighting for the equality of America. Susan B. Anthony is fighting for women being able to vote like everyone else. Martin Luther King is fighting for the equality of African Americans. Both just want to see America as an equal place instead of discrimination against others based on race or gender. Even though their message has similarities the way they delivered them was different.

President Lincoln has had numerous achievements, such as ending slavery, modernizing the economy, and preserving the Union. Lincoln is famously known for ending slavery. He issued the Emancipation of Proclamation. The presidential proclamation was issued during the American Civil War. Lincoln stated in his speech, "I do order and declare that all persons held as slaves within said designated States, and parts of states, and henceforward shall be free."

Without this, slaves still may be present in America and people may not have the same rights they do now.
When asked about Abraham Lincoln’s greatest accomplishment in the Civil War, most people would probably say “freeing the slaves”. While it is true, President Lincoln did have a lot to do with the emancipation of over millions of slaves, that is not necessarily his “greatest accomplishment”. The two men joined the fight for equality for similar reasons. King’s family were terrorized by all the whites in his area, and X’s father. was murdered by the Ku Klux Klan. This inspired and motivated both to challenge the society to be more inclusive. Whilst fighting for the same thing - equality for blacks - the movements they became involved with went about achieving their goals in completely different ways. The Civil Rights Movement is most commonly linked with Martin Luther.

A self-educated attorney from Illinois, he proved himself to be a brilliant leader throughout the Civil War period. Abraham Lincoln is arguably one of the greatest presidents in the history of the United States. He only served 5 years, but was president in the worst period of American history. He did the unthinkable to many people because of the severity of the decision; he emancipated slaves in the United States. This caused him to be dubbed ‘The Great Emancipator’. The nickname he received is an accurate one because it is a major decision that shaped the future of America. This decision was long overdue and he made sure that the prosperity would not have to deal with the issue of slavery separating the government. Additionally, he was able to change the landscape of the war because the North had affected the South’s way of life. He was very bold for declaring that all slaves will be free, but it was for the improvement of America.
No doubt, famous historical figure Abraham Lincoln was a key figure for the United States during its Civil War. Whenever he’s spoken of in the educational system, he’s known as the man who freed the slaves. During Lincoln’s presidency, he implemented an order that would forever affect the slaves and the outcome of the Civil War. On September 22, 1862, he released the preliminary announcement for the Emancipation Proclamation. It eventually went into full effect on January 1st, 1863, during the second year of the Civil War. As President Lincoln signed the proclamation on New Year 's day in his office, he quoted, “I never felt more certain, that I was doing right, than signing this paper.”
Abraham Lincoln is regarded by many Americans as the greatest president to ever hold office in the history of the United States, and his reputation is definitely well deserved. Lincoln wasn't scared to stand up and fight for what he knew was right. He was convinced that within the branches of government, the presidency alone was empowered not only to uphold the Constitution, but also to protect, and defend it. Lincoln was able to lead our country and preserve the Union, keeping the United States from splintering during the devastating times of the Civil War. As President, he built the Republican Party into a strong national organization, and he rallied most of the northern Democrats to the Union cause. On January 1, 1863, he issued the Emancipation Proclamation that changed the war into a battle for freedom and declared forever free those slaves within the Confederacy. That November, Lincoln gave his famous Gettysburg Address, which stated how a country must be dedicated to human freedom in order to survive. He dedicated the battlefield to the soldiers who had perished, and called on the living to finish the task the dead soldiers had begun. (Donald, 1995) Lincoln believed that democracy could be a lasting form of government. He showed a nobility of character that had worldwide appeal, and he was a man of great integrity. However, Lincoln was not only the 16th president of the United States, he was an American hero. Lincoln was a well-rounded individual and he had numerous outstanding qualities. However, it is important to remember that Lincoln also led a private life, complete with close friends and family.

Both had visualized some type of change in the future, yet were not literally able to see it. Both Dr. King and Malcolm X set out to bring a sense of confidence to blacks all over the United States.
Martin Luther King Jr. and John F. Kennedy were two very commendable men. They were two very different men that I feel had the same incredible amount passion for human beings. Both Dr. King and President Kennedy had such high hopes for this country and regardless of the sad and devastating time era, they both spoke with much poise and compassion. I truly believe they are exactly what this country needed and still needs to this very day.
