First song I learned its’ lyrics was “Si Una Vez by Selena”. This song always gives me flashbacks of my oldest sister. We were so close as growing up despite the age differences, she was in her teens and I was only a seven year old. This is one of my earliest memories ever because it was one of her favorite songs and she would sing it around me, because of that I heard it and I would join her by singing it, day by day she taught me the lyrics until I learned it by memory. Two years later she moved out due to family problems and whenever I hear this song, I just think of the good times I spended with her. Nowadays I barely see her. It’s not really a tradition, but Selena is very popular in the Mexican community, plus my mother and sisters loved her so I grew up listening to her music. Also, the popular Latino channel “Univision” plays her movie on March 31st and that’s my mom’s favorite channel. “Dreaming Of You” is played in this movie, so whenever I hear that song it reminds me of how Selena inspired us as young girls, watching the movie together, and how every year things change a lot cause a lot can happen in a year. Selena sang in spanish only and “Dreaming Of You” was one of her first English music, after that she was murdered. The Selena movie is one of my favorites movie since my childhood. My dad liked music so much, but mostly Rock N’ Roll especially from the 70’s and 80’s. I don’t live with him no more but the song “Light My Fire by The Doors” reminds me of him. In my memory, this song played in his car when he would take me out to eat. It reminds me of his taste in music and how because of him I enjoy listening to The Doors. He was a fan of this band and Jim Morrison’s rebellious actions. My dad introduced me to 70’s and 80’s music and because of him, I enjoy rock n’ Roll music.
