One in every five women in South Korea has gone through some kinds of plastic surgery in their life time. In South Korea, the number of plastic surgery patients is overwhelmingly high compared to other countries but there is no legislation to restrict the misusage, which results in various negative consequences. Originally, the purpose of plastic surgery is to repair, restore or improve injured or misshapen body parts but rather than being used for medical purposes, this surgery is broadly used for cosmetic uses. Currently, as there is no legal restriction to limit the misusage of plastic surgery, South Koreans are losing their unique individuality due to this. Furthermore, the people who are really in need have serious financial problems in order to receive necessary plastic surgery, since the price is inflated by the popularity of plastic surgery. In addition, legislation to restrict the misuse of plastic surgery would protect patients from various side effects, which cause numerous death incidents. Thus, the Korean government has to have legislation in order to restrict plastic surgery used for cosmetic reasons.

Legislation in South Korea to restrict the misuse of plastic surgery is essential in order to prevent the South Koreans from losing individuality. Since the beauty standards of Korean society are largely influenced by the Western countries, people get plastic surgery to look like the Western people as shown through the satirical picture shown below:

She had major problems while she was eating food and was insulted due to her abnormal factor, which led her to consider committing suicide. Her dream was not to become beautiful but to live an ordinary life with an ordinary face and this evidently shows that the lives of people who are really in need are dependent on plastic surgery. It is true that as plastic surgery becomes popular, the doctors would become more experienced but as shown through ‘Ye-Eun Huh’, some peoples’ lives are dependent on plastic surgery in order to live an ordinary life, which is much more important than getting advanced plastic surgery. Consequently, there must be legislation to restrict the misusage of plastic surgery since it influences people negatively, who are really in need of plastic surgery.
