Should Women Be Allowed In Combat? Some men think women should not be allowed in combat in the army.
But there are many reasons why they should be allowed.
First of all, women are alive and are human and just like everyone else. So, they can be trained to fight just like men could. There was once a woman in the army who was named Grace Murray Hopper, and she was a United States Navy Rear Admiral. She also had a missile destroyer that was named after her. Also, just think about how many women probably want to go to combat. Hundreds, even thousands of women want to be in combat. Anyone can be in combat if they wanted. But others say they are too weak and get blown up and aimed at and shot far too much. Still, women have the right to be in combat, and also, many women have been in the army for many years, and have done great

A 19-year old, Janiece Marquez, felt exactly that way, and had wanted to sign up for combat. All the men laughed at her when she told them about it. “If you look at the population demographics, most women cannot properly carry a 230-pound soldier with a rucksack and combat vest on, off of the battlefield to save his life. So there are just certain realities where men can do certain things better, women can do certain other things better than men can.” And you will never believe what Janiece became in the few years after. She became a U.S. Army Captain and has served in combat ever since.
Women aren’t what you may think. They are not just weak, dainty little people. They are alive and can do just what men can. There are so many strong women out there who many people respect, and if they decided to be in combat, wouldn’t you let them? As we were saying, women have rights of their own, they have the right to go where they want to go, do what they want to do. And now, women want to fight for their country and family. Why
In the Upfront Magazine Article “Women Warriors”, author Rebecca Zissou told the story of two women who recently graduated the Army’s Ranger School, but whether they would be able to serve alongside their fellow male graduates was unknown. Zissou also delved into the issue of whether or not women should be allowed to serve in combat positions. However, I believe that women should be allowed to serve in combat positions in the U.S. armed forces.
With society’s past and present it is apparent that women are still not equal even if they have the title. Men are observably stronger and have a different mentality in situations than women. This is not to say that women should not be in the military but they should have the choice that way they can accept the responsibility and train themselves mentally and physically to achieve the responsibility and respect needed to fight for our country.
Women who fought in battle are not an uncommon concept. There are stories from ancient history that shows that a woman participating in battle was not completely forbidden. The Amazons were a mythic race of warrior women who appear in Greek texts. They are even mentioned in several of Homer’s epic poems. These women were the antithesis of the typical Greek woman; they practiced archery and swordplay, and they lived away from civilized society. It is a common theme for the Amazons to be subjugated and dominated by men, and scholars view this theme as the evolution from matriarchy to patriarchy (Reinhard).
Many people today believe that women should go into combat and everything will be fine. Well, that is not true. If a woman goes into hand-to-hand combat, she will create many problems for her team, which results to her team losing the battle. If you think women should not go into hand-to-hand combat, read on and find out why.
Women have been in the military, or associated with combat for decades. “The most famous example of the ability of a woman to not only be involved in combat but to lead forces is that of Joan of Arc's legendary battles leading the French army when she was just a teenager.”(Gerber 1) Women have been involved in espionage and even posed as male soldiers during the Civil War. Conflicts such as, WWI, WWII, Panama, and as recent as our current wars in Iraq and Afghanistan women have served with distinction in many ways. In our most recent conflict, over 100 military women have given the ultimate sacrifice. Today with changes in our society and the global environment in which we live two controversial arguments arise concerning women in combat. Basically the debate whether or not women should be allowed to participate in direct combat or not. As our society and cultural beliefs change so does what we except as social norms. Both sides of this argument bring many reasons for and against allowing women to participate in direct combat. Taking into account both views of this controversy it will show, that not only a social change has occurred, but the dynamics of the battlefield has in fact already placed female service members into direct combat.
In 2015 the military removed the ban on women serving in combat roles. Before this women could serve in combat zones, but could not serve in combat roles (i.e. drive tanks, lead the infantry, be an Army Ranger or Navy SEAL). Now men and women serving in the military can have the same jobs and are paid the same rate based on rank and specialty.
It took awhile to convince the men to let them do this, but, some woman fought in the war. The women who could fly airplanes joined the WASP (Women’s Airforce Service Pilots). Women who could sail boats or fight near water joined the WAVES (Women Accepted for Volunteer Emergency Service). All the women who still wanted to fight, but couldn’t fly airplanes or fight near the sea joined the WAC (Women’s Army Corps). As a result, more than 100,000 women in the WAC and more than 6,000 female officers. The women could now work and fight for their country. Any woman could fight and that's
Statistics from a poll that was took from USA Today/CNN/Gallup Poll in 2005, 27 percent of citizens think women should be able to serve anywhere in Iraq, 32 percent think that they should serve as support for ground combat units, and 44 percent think women should not be assigned to infantry units (“Attitudes Toward Women in Combat” #10). Many people are concerned that the women will be used as a prisoner of war, lack physical strength that will disable them in a mission, or wouldn't be equipped to handle stress situations. Women have proven themselves otherwise. Data from the 2011 class at West Point shows that 50 percent of female Cadets, a select group, passes the Army Physical Fitness Test (APFT) using the male standards. A percentage of women are just as efficient as men. New research suggests that women can enhance combat performances of the military without disrupting...
When it comes to being in combat I believe that women and men should have the same opportunity to do whatever they want in the military. So therefore, I agree that women should participate in combat. I believe that a woman is capable to do anything that a man can do physically and mentally. If I was in combat and had to fight with a person of a different gender I would not mind it at and would treat them just like another person I fight with. If someone is willing to give their life for our country I’m all for it does not matter their gender or race. As you read “All Guts, No Glory” by Molly M. Ginty you will see that women have made great sacrifices for their unit they served in and for our country. A women that is willing to go to the front
Women are not as strong fighters as men are. Drafting women will create a weaker military because they are not built to fight against men. Some women are physically capable of being in the military but the majority are not.
Like with any modern point of contention, it is important to understand the history. Since as early as the revolutionary war, women have been active participants in the U.S. military. From nursing soldiers to cross-dressing and actually fighting, women have played a crucial
This is due to the fact that there are actually very few women who question why they are not allowed in these combat units. One woman remarks that, “I certainly wouldn’t want to be in the infantry. A normal woman can’t carry a rucksack that the guys can... And, let’s face it, we would probably make things harder on everybody all around. No Way” (Moskos). This woman states from personal experience, that women are probably not a good fit for the infantry for several different reasons and there are not many women who disagree. Women make up fourteen percent of all soldiers, and out of that there is maybe a percent or two who have considered the direct combat units; therefore the question becomes “Where is the twenty percent that would join the elite groups?”
They have also been nurses for years and years but people who argue about this say the women won’t be able to stomach the half blown up men. Well that’s where they are wrong like I mentioned before they have been nurses in world war one and two stitching up half blown up men trying to nurse them back to health and they succeeded. So with that said I defiantly think that women should fight alongside men. I believe so strongly about this because if women go through all the training that men do and they succeed then more power to them. If they want to go out on that field and fight for their country well why not let them they passes all the tests that men have to also take. They are as capable as men are to accomplish whatever mission they are on. A lot of women have fought and died and I give them all my respect but it doesn’t matter where they will fight they are always in danger out on the field no matter what branch or assignment you’re in so if a women has the courage to go fight along with her fellow men soldiers let her fight because men and women and men are both capable to fight on the front
Across the history, women Suffer from luck of their right. Culture and civilization was not respect women and put them in the lower layer in their social pyramid. Kill them were they alive, while other give them a life with a lot of misery and obstacle, which is the same thing or killing them better than these life . At the few previous centuries, the world growth and become more opening. people understanding that they are needing women in a lot of job outside their home as men. Sadly, when we came to combat sector, we stop thinking logically. It is men major one hundred percent . If we look to the book (1001 things everyone should know about women's history) which written by Constance Jones (2000) we can find that only 88013 women among history had the ability to take part in military by give a variety of services. Some country actually these day try to make it happen. For instance the first country was allowed women in military was Norway around 1985. Then, it followed by thirteen other countries. It still small percentage compared with the world. It is the right of women to join army and take part in combat, because they are capable as men in adapting with situation. Also, they have equally amount in cerebration and they have the right to decide their own destiny.
Many agree, that in certain military occupations, women can function at the same level as men. The controversy about having women fighting with men in wars is the fact that they have a different physical structure, deal with stress and emotions differently , are more susceptible to injury and just don't have the killer instinct necessary to get the job done. Although the last statement might appear to be a stereotype, most women would not be capable of supporting the demanding rigors of war-like situations. It would be a great mistake to allow women in these stressful and dangerous situations.
