Should We Protect Canadian Culture

I do believe that the U.S. - Canadian dispute was motivated by genuine desires to protect Canadian culture to a great extent because it is quite difficult to preserve a culture when you have another country’s culture constantly impeding itself into all the unique facets that make up that province. It is quite understandable that Canada would impose safeguards to keep the US culture from totally taking over the Canadian way of life. The U.S. culture has a way of intertwining itself into television, music, and several other types of media making it a challenge to preserve the traditional and familiar ways of life that people are used to.

Canada is no different than any other country in that they have unique traditions and customs that they want to preserve. As stated in the in the article, “magazines constitute the only national press that Canada possesses” so why wouldn’t they fight to protect something that is exclusive and rare. The Canadians have a vested interest in their way of living and want to share this with their fellow Canadians as well as with the rest of the world. What better way to share their lives, culture, heritage, and experiences than with their magazines and periodicals? The trade dispute between Canada and America may have seemed like a very petty disagreement but in essence it was about Canada standing up for their right to shield another culture from infringing upon their customs and practices. America is not different in this aspect because although we are made of many diverse cultures each culture battles within to continue to celebrate those practices in our everyday lives as well as to keep others aware of those
