28% of U.S. students in 6-12 grade have been bullied. 30% admit have have done the bullying. 70.6% of students say they have seen bullying in their school. 70.4% of school staff have seen bullying and 62% witnessed bullying two or more times in the last month and 41% witness bullying once a week or more. That is disheartening that teachers would look away or ignore someone who is getting bullied and is in needed of help. Bullying can really affect students and how they look at themselves and what they think of themselves. If we as adults and teachers don 't help our students out in a time of need they aren 't going to trust us. Some things we should do to make school a more safer place for students is we should have teachers monitoring the hallways between passing time. Be more assertive when punishing a student for bullying. Furthermore we should always be on the lookout for bullying and if we see it happening stop as soon as possible. One thing we could do is if we see someone getting bullied or someone bullying someone else we can should stop them not just stand by. We as a teachers and adults should take …show more content…
Other thing we could do is installing cameras so if something does happen and we don 't see or catch it in time we have it on camera and can punish that student probably. Furthermore we should consider that we won 't be able to see everything that is going on in the hallways or outside of school. We need to do the best we can so that the students know that school is a safe environment and they shouldn 't dread coming to school everyday or skipping school because they know that that one person is going to be there and is going to pick on them and tell them that they are stupid or are weird or is just plain rude to them. We need to enforce these rules as best as we
Bullying incidents need to be monitored and stopped when they are happening. Schools need to do more to prevent bullying issues and stop them for good. Most children are too afraid to say anything to
To know how to prevent bullying, it’s important to note when these actions first become visible. It can be seen that bullying occurs most often in schools, then at work places. It is known that many schools stress and make efforts to stop bullying because younger kids are more susceptible to bullying. They have more difficulty defending themselves. However, this is not always the case. For example, “[…] the Columbine school shooting tragedy - highlight the serious and sometime deadly consequences of bullying behavior” (American Physiological Association). The teens who were involved in the shootings were bullied and decided to take revenge which led to the killing and injures of many people. In order to prevent further problems related to bullying, it’s important to spread the word. It’s true that bullying is already commonly known, but the health effects to it and especially the genetic effects are not. Spreading these ideas around might just bring in light for many to take serious action because of the implications it has to not just the ones being bullied, but also to the future generations to come. Although bullying may never actually be gone, these acts to prevent it will help lower and limit the amount of
Phoebe Prince is a name some of us might not know or remember, but in 2010 her name and picture were everywhere. Phoebe Prince was an Irish immigrant who moved to South Hadley, Massachusetts. In her new high school she was the subject of malicious bullying by her classmates, both at school and online. This bullying would eventually drive Phoebe to hang herself. Bullying in schools and online has become a serious problem in our country. . With rates like this, the question left to be answered is, when is bullying “just kids being kids “,
Teachers need to be trained to identify and respond to inappropriate behavior and to be vigilant and visible in the hallways, stairwells, locker rooms, and cafeterias. Have students draw a map of areas that bullying has happened, then share it with the staff to make sure there is coverage.

Many kids are being bullied in schools all around our nation. This behavior has been repeated for too long. Kids bully others, they are being bullied, or they witness the bullying. The internet came along and the bullies had a new platform where they could spread rumors, post mean messages or embarrassing pictures. Now kids really could not escape their intimidators. It used to be said that getting picked on was a way to develop character. Sadly, we only realized bulling was an issue that had to be dealt with when students began to kill themselves due to the torment they were enduring on a daily
"Pulling someone down will never help you reach the top." is a great quote that everyone should strive to remember. When setting new goals you want to achieve, you will notice others want a similar goal as you. Instead of worrying about them and trying to stop them from reaching their goals, work on yourself and do what you need to do to reach the top. Hurting someone and making them feel worthless will not make you a better person. When people do things to bring others down or intentionally try physically hurting them, is called bullying. Bullying is a serious issue that has big consequences.
The first tier and arguably the most important is the students. Students should have an expectation of how to treat others and feel comfortable telling a teacher if there is a situation they need help with. Teachers should look out for early signs of bullying and think of an effective strategy to stop it. Personally, I believe that ‘team-based’ learning is the most effective method of reducing bullying. By creating a team atmosphere, students should be more encouraged to work together and give each other support to achieve a common goal. Offering incentives for everyone to perform well could distract students who are likely to bully their classmates. Next, administrators carry the important task of monitor student behavior trends and implement school policies to combat bullying. My suggestion for administrative policy against bullying is the ‘zero-tolerance’ method. Bullying in any form is unacceptable and should not be allowed on school
Bullying has been a problem for many years. Many people have been bullying in school and over the internet on social network websites. Not only bullying hurts the victim, but also the bully and everyone around them. In this advertisement, a kid raised up both of his arms with these words “stop bullying” written on his hands. His eyes showed the sadness and the depression that words cannot describe. Even though this advertisement seems simplistic and plain, but it is carrying a strong message that can persuade readers to think and take action against bullying.
Bullying is something that is not something new and is actually something that society continues to face. Over the years, bullying has been looked at as being so ordinary in schools that it is continuously overlooked as an emanate threat to students and has been lowered to a belief that bullying is a part of the developmental stage that most young children will experience then overcome (Allebeck, 2005, p. 129). Not everyone gets over the extreme hurt that can come as an effect from bullying, for both the bully and the victim. Because of this, we now see bullying affecting places such as the workplace, social events and even the home. The issue of bullying is not only experienced in schools, but the school environment is one of the best places
Bullying is a repeated harmful act that continues to affect millions of students every year. There is no stereotypical person that is a target for bullying; anyone can be its victim. There may not always be any signs of physical harm during these attacks, but our children always suffer emotional harm. Educating students, teachers and parents seems to be the only valid solution to this problem. There are many organizations that can educate the schools on this subject but for it to work people must care. Maybe one day, when enough people realize that this problem will not go away with out their help, we can eliminate bullying from our schools. In a perfect world there would be no bullying, but if you could ask Rachel Scott she would tell you we do not live in a perfect world, only a hopeful one.
Specific Purpose: To persuade my audience and help them understand why bullying is an issue.
By monitoring where bullying occurs and making sure that they are safe for a student can be extremely helpful. Lawner and Terzian identify that bullying happens where adults aren 't watching and call these places “hotspots”. They say “Research suggests that much bullying behavior occurs in “hotspots”— areas with low levels of adult supervision, such as a playground, bus, or cafeteria.” This only proves that bullying happens everyday usually at the same area, yet no one is there to see or help. Adding supervision by placing adults in areas like this would decrease the issue in that children are being watched causing the victim to feel safe and the bully intimidated. Since bullying is being turned to online, administrators should have the right with permission from the victim to see what the bully is posting on there page. Bullies usually have more than one victim and administrators being able to access the bullies internet pages so that they could identify more easily who they are attacking. Although I stress the importance of supervision, it is important to also make children feel a sense of freedom and by adding too much supervision school can quickly turn into a prison style monitoring
Bullying has become a serious problem in public schools systems. Being a victim of bullying is a daily struggle for some students. The issue continues to grow, but the question is how to stop bullying from occurring. Many ways have been attempted to stop bullying, but some are more effective than others. Having the students get involved seems to have the most positive effect on the bullying issue in public school systems.
Although bullying continues to be an issue in our society, but mainly in schools, all we can do is keep educating kids on what is right and wrong, letting them know the consequences of their actions both to its victim and to themselves. Also, parents can be more enlightened on how to raise their kids in healthier way so that they do not grow up seeking for attention or power in the wrong ways.
