The Right to Write About Legalizing Same-Sex Marriage Same-sex marriage is one of the biggest controversy we have in the world today. Though many people are for same-sex marriage, and worship the lovers that are following their hearts, others are deeply against it and disgusted by the whole matter. In fact, in some way, shape, or form, everyone has had some interaction with this controversy, whether it has had a positive or negative impact on them. Gay people, and lesbian people, are still people. There are gay firefighters, police officers, doctors, state and federal officials. In a great argumentative essay, pros and cons will be discussed with great detail, hoping to change minds of some. Maybe not being able to change everyone’s opinions towards same-sex marriage, but to get them to look at it in a different way. Whether they praise it, or are just disgusted with it, maybe my essay will show them not to express themselves so harshly. Being harsh is what is making our world a horrid place, especially to raise our children. My full research and heart will come out onto display to possibly alter the minds of some of the pessimists that cannot seem to stand down. The new estimate suggests that 390,000 out of nearly 1 million same-sex couples are married.” Could you imagine how many happily married same-sex couples there would be in the United States if it was legalized everywhere? Words cannot express what this topic means to me, since there are gay relatives in my family, this becomes personal. It is a very sensitive subject for some, but for ones that are bothered by same-sex marriage no offense. Being against, or with the same-sex marriage, you will find a complete biased opinion. In the United States, same-sex couples face exactly this kind of discrimination. Since the 1920’s the LGBT (Lesbian, Gay, Bi, Trans) community has been fighting for equality, starting with the Society of Human Rights in Chicago, the earliest known gay rights organization (“American” 1). The movement transformed completely from a couple of activists to a widespread protest in the 1969 Stonewall Riots.
