Some professional athletes feel as if “the competitive drive to win can be very intense”, while other players think using performance enhancing drugs will create an easier game (Drug Free Sport). Even though doping “violates the rules of the game and exposes contestants to sanctions”, it still occurs in sports -- from high school to professional leagues (Mitten). The National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) is trying to put a stop to the use of substances during athletic participation by having random drug inspections, but the tests have not completely demolished this movement (Mitten). The aspect of sports is that every player should play by the same rules. When the participan... ... middle of paper ... ...arm to athletic associations, then the drugs should at least be approved and meet the Food and Drug Administration standards.
If doping were legalised it would send a signal to young people that it is all right to take drugs if you want to be a successful athlete. I, too, believe that the hysteria about doping sometimes reaches inconceivable heights. However, there is a reason why sport reacts so strongly against doping. Maybe the critics should be pleased that somebody tries to hold on to the special character of sport instead of criticizing them for fighting a hopeless battle and being out of touch with the development of society. Who knows?
In the United states, an estimated one to three million people have used anabolic steroids. Many of these are young people. Performance enhancing drugs have become a big issue in sports. They are affecting the way people view sports. Performance enhancing drugs are becoming a problem in many athletics, affecting big stars who serve as role models for their followers.

A lot of them are negative, but some are positive in the way that there should be steroids in sports. Josh Hodnik; a writer for the VPX live powerfully website claims that, “Steroids are cheating because it gives an unfair advantage to the players that are taking the drug, to the players who are not” (Hodnik). I disagree with this statement because, you cannot control someones life and what they want tot do with their life is their problem. Our society views sports differently than we think; we have such a strict mindset on the fact that winning is everything. If we change our views on just winning and just look at the athletes themselves, we maybe can get past the idea that steroids in sports is not bad.
Amphetamines could be obtained legitimately to outside sources including the black market (Dolan 58). Growth hormone is in all sports, it is banned by the anti-doping agency, athletes have to do a drug test, to prove that a person is not doing drugs (Harvard Kennedy School). Creatine is a supplement, it is used to help recovery after workout, and it also helps increase the mass of muscles (Mayo Clinic). A steroid precursor is something the body converts to anabolic steroids (Mayo Clinic). There were polls taken,... ... middle of paper ... ...mful effects, these effects can end somone’s life.
You may hear a lot about steroids abuse for athletes all around the world. People of most ages are using them and we don't even know it most the time. From middle school, high school, and adults use this type of drug. Steroids in fact are not illegal, but you would have to get a “special” prescription from the doctors. There are also a couple different types of steroids.
They think because they aren’t drug tested that it is okay for them to do these things and still be able to play sports. Well I think that is wrong, sports are a privilege and if you can’t follow the rules why should you be able to play? “To suggest that 60 per cent of athletes take drugs..” This many athletes take drugs and still get to do these things. In my opinion it is not fair to the athletes that handle their business properly and do what they are supposed to do. Many athletes that use drugs are the ones that are the most talented in what they do, but then when they get caught using drugs they throw all of that away.
